Starts slow but builds up nicely

This story started slowly and didn't really grab me at first, but when it got going I was hooked, not to mention a little creeped out. Finishes with the classic Wyndham way.

Science and political science meet

It takes about a half hour to get into the story but it’s well worth the time. I like all of Wyndham’s novels and Web is good enough to re-read. It’s so very plausible. Super performance by Keith Wickham.

Interesting premise

Wyndham is reliable for a well
crafted period sci-fi tale. Important to consider the publication date for context, eg. no cell phones or satelite GPS, smoking but no vaping.

very dry

this book goes into a lot about the historics of an island, so I'm not sure how this fits into science fiction category..

Interesting Eco Horror

I was initially delighted to stumble on a John Wyndham book I had not read. However, having finished it I was wondering when it was written and I see it was published 10 years after his death.

This definitely is not one of his best, and I suspect was drafted in the early 60s. The second chapter is huge, (the impacts of colonialism and nuclear testing on the islanders), and needed a good edit.

There are hints of his other work, but this is not one of his best. However, I did enjoy the experience of reading a "new to me" Wyndham book, and the narration was good.
