Story
Avery Shaw is back from her honeymoon and on the prowl for a story. She wants to prove that marriage has softened her - nothing ever could - and the way she’s going to do that is by rocking the news world with something monumental. Then a body drops in her neighborhood, only blocks away from her house, and the hunt is on. The victim is divorced, having an affair with a married coworker, and generally unlikable. Avery has multiple places to look for a suspect...and then another woman dies only a block away from Avery’s house, and the entire dynamic of the story changes.

Story
Bay thought the worst was behind her when she modified the memories of four tempestuous teenagers bent on stealing magic and wielding it in a tyrannical manner. Unfortunately for her, when one of those teenagers ends up dead behind the inn her father owns, things start to spiral. The girl’s death is ritual in fashion, bloody runes painted on the trees, and Bay can’t wrap her head around exactly what has happened. Then things get worse.

Story
Avery Shaw has the world at her fingertips...and a pile of dead Santas near the railroad tracks. Interestingly, she’s more focused on the Santas than her personal life, but only because she’s been warned that a proposal is imminent from her live-in love Eliot Kane and she needs to look somewhere else - anywhere else will do - rather than accept what he’s trying to offer. Avery never pictured herself married but it appears it might be happening...no matter how she tries to dodge and weave. The Santas make an enticing distraction, so Avery throws herself in with gusto.

Story
Avery Shaw likes to win. Unfortunately, her single-minded focus on being declared victor tends to get her into trouble. That’s never more true than when she decides to take on her archnemesis Tad Ludington. With an election coming up, Avery is ready to let her freak flag fly in an attempt to get Tad to show his true colors on television...thus sabotaging his chance at getting into office. That backfires when, after a truly epic meltdown, Tad is shot and left for dead in his own home.

Publisher's Summary
Avery Shaw never saw marriage on the menu - and when she did, she avoided it like liver and onions - but it appears her life is about to change. She simply can’t decide if it’s for better or worse.
With matrimony barreling down on her, she needs a distraction, and she gets it in the form of a warning. Apparently, she’s on the hit list for a local dealer who is trying to move in on turf she’s responsible for cleaning up, and news that she could be marked for death has her fiancé Eliot Kane in a tailspin.
Avery likes it when things line up her way. Unfortunately, very little is going how she envisioned in her life right now. Between her archnemesis Tad Ludington being fully recovered and back to his old tricks and her mother demanding a say in wedding preparations, Avery has her hands full.
The drug trade in Macomb County runs deeper than anybody anticipated, and the more Avery digs, the more she realizes that the case she thought was closed up tight is still open and ongoing. With an intern on her tail demanding attention, Avery is determined to uncover a secret so big it could blow up certain political circles within the county.
Eliot is by her side but his fear regarding the new people in Avery’s life is palpable...as is Sheriff Jake Farrell’s annoyance when he realizes what Avery is chasing. He wants her cut off from information, which isn’t something she will just sit back and accept.
It’s a war of the worlds this go-around for Avery, and the only chance she has to walk down the aisle is to figure out exactly what is going on. That’s easier said than done when she’s got a price on her head and people actively trying to thwart her every move.
She wants her happily ever after, and she’s determined nothing is going to stop her...not even death. Strap in and get ready, because Avery Shaw is taking no prisoners. Not this time.

Here's the thing
First off the story was great loved it. Writing was fantastic Avery is usually more devious and snarky but it was still good. I was a bit desperate for a Audible book due to eye issues and love this series however I highly recommend you read it NOT listen the narrator was horrible the voices poorly done. Avery sounded like she sucked helium in pinched her nose and screeched out lines. Fish, Avery's mom, grandpa, tad, her cousin and really most of the characters were just as bad. DON'T LISTEN TO THIS SERIES stay clear of Audible book.

Tries too hard to be cute; terrible narrator
The story tried too hard to be cute and I couldn't stomach the screechy voice of the narrator. Glad I didn't pay full price for this one.

Irritating main character.
Very disappointed. Spoiled and rude main character. Narration was whiney and annoying. Story line was ok. Will not continue this series.

The best yet
This was by far the best yet. First time I have cried in an Avery book.
A number of things happen to let you see how Avery has grown as a character. She is still the most kickass mouthy one of them all!!!!!

Great book. I laughed and cry along the way
Amanda M. Lee has a way with making me laugh and cry through them. Avery, Elliot and Jake are great. I love Elliot's nickname for Avery because she finds trouble around every corner. Loved their wedding and that Avery and Jake are still friends. I love to read books that get my emotions involved. I can't wait to read more of the books.

💗💗💗
i Loved it! but i love Everything Avery Shaw=) i like how she's growing up and especially that everyone makes fun of her for it. they wouldn't be her people if they didn't.
im still not happy with the fact Duncan's voice has changed. if that's because readers complained about his lisp, i don't think ms Lee should have been swayed by it. political correctness is so ridiculous. it fit his character and he's not the same anymore. that's the only thing i can think of i don't like.
i loved Avery and Eliot's vows=) they were perfect for them.
as for Jake, i know they have a long history but, if it were me, I'd have never talked to him again.
i hope the next book includes the honeymoon! there are so many places this story can go! and so much more of Avery to see, now that she's married=))

Avery strikes agin
One of the things I love most about this series is the dynamic between Avery and Tad. I love her besting him. This book did not disappoint on that dynamic or the dynamic of Avery and Jake and Avery and Elliot. And she is doing all that while taking down drug dealers!
