About this listen

An abandoned old house in a small town northeast of Houston is the site of a second murder, eerily similar to a supposed cold case of 14 years earlier. FBI Agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are dispatched to find the link between the two homicides.

The team, including Ice and Billy, find the case to be anything but cold. For CJ and Paige, juggling the investigation while trying to keep their love affair a secret proves to be as hard as uncovering long-buried clues.

I loved Paige and CJ in this. They're beautiful together. If you liked them in book 1, you'll love them in book 2. I may have to see if there are other books in the series that haven't made it to audible or which are forthcoming :)

Lovely sequel

Was this book better than book one? yes it was, but only marginally, I found the characters, the two female leads and their male partners all equally annoying and I couldn’t understand why their personalities or their characters were built in that manner. Maybe the author thought it would be funny but when you think of FBI agents and you compared what you expect of an FBI agent and what you get with these four agents, they’re more like mall cops ...forget that, even mall cops show more professionalism.

I’m not saying this book needs to be by the book or completely procedural but you have to wonder what the authors intent was when you have a character like ice running out of the house he supposed to be doing a walk-through to investigate, all because his partner is experiencing paranormal activity even though he himself isn’t experiencing any of it. Who does that? Isn’t he supposed to have her back?

Before I continue I also wonder if this author has had any interaction with Black people because ice apparently is supposed to be black or that’s the impression I got from the fact that he has dark brown skin yet the author talks about seeing him get darker because he’s blushing, woman or author! unless the black person has a lighter skin tone, blushing will not show whatsoever. That scene where he is apparently blushing is him and his female partner discussing the dildo he sent to them in book one as a gag gift and his partner says they used it, and he blushes at this...???? What? are you kidding? So many men would picture this and want more details, not blush. Is Ice supposed to be super sensitive?

You also have to wonder where the professionalism is when these two female characters are constantly flirting and being unprofessional by making out or talking about what they’re gonna do to each other when they get home. Everything had a sexual undertone, no matter where they were, even at a crime scene.

With all that flirting and on the job groping, you would expect, hot sex scenes. You would be wrong. they are so lack lustre. I’ve read FM, MM, and FF, Romances, and so many have cut and paste overly explicit sex scenes, some are tastefully done and some just implicate that they did the deed, without describing it. I’d prefer any of the before mentioned than the scenes in this book. I almost felt like the author had no idea what else could be part of the scene.

Could have been good
