Would not recommend

I’m a huge Office fan and was excited to find this book. I made it maybe an hour or two into it and and couldn’t take anymore. I’m sure the story is fine but with all the characters being narrated by other random people I found it extremely difficult to follow as I couldn’t tell who was speaking. I wish I could’ve returned the book but was unable to as I actually paid for it

Can’t get through it

It seems like it might be an okay story, but it sounds like some of the podcast Brian did, not to mention that the voices are not the actual people, which is very frustrating to listen to.

Disappointing execution of an interesting topic

This audiobook reminded me of a great TV show from the late 90's, NewsRadio. The boss' memoirs didn't sell well in bookstores, although the Japanese translation was a hit, so the Japanese version was translated back to English. The original title of "Jimmy James: Capitalist Lion Tamer" translated from English to Japanese back to English became "Jimmy James: Macho Business Donkey Wrestler". Obviously it was a mess, and so is listening to this audiobook.

This history of The Office was a bunch of interviews of the cast and creators recorded, transcribed, edited down, compiled into a book. It would have been better to cut the original interviews into an audiobook instead of hiring voice actors to read the edited transcripts. That way we would be able to recognize most of the voices. In it's current form it grows to unrecognizable levels. Somebody was saying that they knew B.J.Novak from childhood. Who? I don't recognize the voice, there was no named introduction after the first time that voice actor started reading. The first chapter or two were interesting, but once more and more voice actors were added it was just a muddled mess.

as a mild fan of the show, I really enjoyed this.

I'm not obsessed with the show, so I didn't know most of the things they talked about here. I'm a bigger fan now then I was though because of the people who were involved with it.

It's lackluster

I think the performances of the readers are terrible. They're reading other people's life experiences with no feeling, and it's incredibly boring and disconnected. Brian is trying his best to seem enthusiastic against these bland readers, but it feels forced and disingenuous. It is a shame he couldn't get the actual actors to read their parts so we could experience their emotional connection to the stories.

Good book but...

I loved the book but, if you've listened to Brian's podcasts it's verbatim from that only the actors don't read their own quotes. But if you love the office this is perfect for your bookshelf.

Great!

Love that Brian read it, most of the voice actors sound very similar to the people they are portraying, so it's easy to figure out who is who! Overall a great listen!

Great Story!

Loved the story that was taken from the podcast and beautifully spliced together to create a great overview of The Office Legacy. The only thing is I miss everyone’s real voices😩 Just not the same…

like the podcast

If you've listened to Brian's podcast you may want to skip the book. it's basically just that. But I love and enjoy the office so much I wanted to own a copy. The performers also kind of throw you off. They are reading for the actors and after introducing them the first time they don't tell you who is talking. I know the show so well that I could figure it out but it may really confuse some people. End of the day I enjoyed it and would recommend it. Or you could listen to the podcast for free. Your choice.

Need the actor voices

This audiobook is too hard to follow.
I got through 4 chapters - every actor is being read by someone else and you can’t tell who’s speaking

Photos?

The book advertises 100 behind the scenes photos, the pdf only lists the episode titles per season, why can’t we see photos?

Great Story

If you have listened to Brian's podcast you may want to skip this. It is a collection of those interviews read by other people, which can get a little confusing to listen to.

I am a huge office fan so I really just wanted to get all the information in a cohesive order. This book held its own in that aspect.

If you have never listened to The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner podcast you should!

Good content, hard to follow

I liked the approach of first-hand narratives. However, it became soooo confusing at times who was who since there were so many different voices reading on behalf of other people. Very difficult to keep straight. I feel like I’d be better off just listening to all Brian’s podcast episodes again. I’m not sure there’s any new info in this book.

Great story, confusing narration

I’m a huge fan of The Office, so naturally this book intrigued me. I loved the story, but the narration was hard to follow. I’m sure if I had actually read the book instead of listening to it, I wouldn’t have had any question about who was saying what, but since different people were reading for the actors, it was hard to know who the person was that was speaking. Overall though, loved the story and loved hearing interesting facts about my favorite show!

Probably entertaining but too hard to follow.

I couldn’t get more than a couple chapters into this because they do not have actual actors voices. That would be ok if they would just tell you who is talking each time it changes voices.(like many other audiobooks do)

Beautiful and not ordinary

This was such a fun trip along the story of The Office! It would've been truly great if we had the actual people reading their parts, but that's probably asking a lot. As it stood, it was sometimes a little hard figuring out who was supposed to be speaking, but still very interesting nonetheless. Very well produced and a strong recommend to all Office fans!

A must for every devoted fan of The Office

While the stories contained in this book come directly from Brian Baumgartner’s oral history of the office and Office deep dive podcast, I still loved listening to every second.

Who is even talking right now?

Like so many other reviewers, I agree that this is incredibly hard to follow. It wouldn't have been so difficult to have the voice actor say the name at the beginning of the comment (as the book would do by listing which actor made which comments). It wouldn't have slowed the narrative, and it would have made this much easier to enjoy. Trying to remember which voice was which person did not work.

AND in a perfect world, they would have gotten the actual actors/crew/creators to read their parts.
