Publisher's Summary

In space, medicine can be murder....

Grace Lord, combat surgeon in training, has just landed her dream job aboard a medical space station. Attacked by a powerful, gorilla-enhanced combat soldier the moment she steps onto the station, she quickly realizes this assignment will be far from typical. She treats the wounded space marines of the Conglomerate under the watchful eyes of stalking androids who all look alike and a mentor with a serious case of megalomania. Meeting a drop-dead gorgeous psychiatrist almost makes it worth it, until the station docks with a mysterious vessel....

The ship is void of crew. There are only some suspicious-looking oily puddles instead. Then Death comes hammering on the station with a flying fist. Before she knows it, Grace and her companions are on a race against the clock to find a cure for the greatest threat the galaxy has ever known before the medical station is blown out of existence....

An enjoyable romp of futuristic space medicine

I thoroughly enjoyed Welcome to the Madhouse, the first book in the Grace Lord Series. It was a light-hearted romp through futuristic space medicine. The story was a great introduction to some very colourful characters. I found it well written overall and particularly enjoyed the banter between the surgical team. It's clear that this story and the world have a large scope and deep backstory that we only heard small tidbits of. I hope that future installments can flush out this world more as what we've learned so far seems interesting and engaging.

As for the audio, I felt the recording quality was excellent and the voice actor did quite a good job. As with most audiobooks I've listened to, the limitation of a single voice actor was apparent at times. I often find male voice actors' portrayals of female characters can be a bit jarring and decrease my immersion in the story. That said, I don't have any good recommendations on how to fix this either.

Overall it was great and I look forward to future releases of the next books in the series.
