Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. I love how the characters respond to the events in a realistic way. This was a great listen!

Instead of starting, like most survival novels, with a collapse and how people react. This starts off many months after the collapse. Problems and excitement are in full swing. A few flashback sequences fill in some gaps later on to flesh out the characters back story but it's not over done. Lots of details have been added along with story elements that leave the author lots of room to expand on with the sequels.
