Frank T Vertosick Jr. MD
About this listen
With poignant insight and humor, Frank Vertosick, Jr., MD, describes some of the greatest challenges of his career, including a six-week-old infant with a tumor in her brain, a young man struck down in his prime by paraplegia, and a minister with a .22-caliber bullet lodged in his skull. Told through intimate portraits of Vertosick's patients and unsparing-yet-fascinatingly detailed descriptions of surgical procedures, When the Air Hits Your Brain - the culmination of decades spent struggling to learn an unforgiving craft - illuminates both the mysteries of the mind and the realities of the operating room.

Really good!
Really liked it, well paced, gives good insight into medicine for non medical people, without being boring & drawn out. Also made good points while incorporating them into the story, without making it feel like a lesson or a lecture. Well written and interesting. I’m a fan of this type of book, collections of stories by different doctors, and this one was definitely one of my favourites so far. Definitely recommend

Spellbinding
2nd. Time around, this book still resonates. Very human together with very technical both of the Surgeon and the patient.

Great read!
We get a thousand lives if we read. Worth adding this one.
I'll need a second pass to bookmark the neurology takeaways. Could have done it in one with a pad and paper.

Unputdownable!
A tantalizing listen from beginning to end! Superbly narrated 🤩
I once dreamed of becoming a medical doctor and then a surgeon. Listening to this book made me fill a living void I constantly lived with. Frank narrates this book with so much creativity, passion and real-world imagery.
