Publisher's Summary

Dark secrets surface in the third Widow’s Island novella by number one Wall Street Journal best-selling author Melinda Leigh.

When a body washes up on the state park beach, Deputy Tessa Black’s experience as a former Seattle detective tells her that the death was not an accident. All evidence points to another murder on the remote island.

The victim is a local contractor with a shockingly long list of enemies. The more locals Tessa interviews, the more people she suspects - from the bitter ex-wife and estranged current wife to disgruntled former clients and employees. They all have different reasons to want him dead.

As Tessa’s investigation heats up, arson and a vicious assault convince her the killer is desperate to hide his crime - and that she’d better solve the case before he claims another victim.

Good suspense

This book has an enjoyable setting and enjoyable characters. The suspense is good. The narration is good but not as enjoyable for me as some.

Good for a rainy afternoon

The story was fun and diverting though rather predictable. The writing, and therefore the performance, was choppy, almost staccato.
The narrator did a good job portraying different characters and moving the story along.
I enjoyed this novella: B-

A Clue!

I’m loving these quick reads/listen. I’ve never really read novellas before. I loved the love interests amongst the crime solving and excited about the first real lead.

Another great murder mystery.

The story sequence with the other bones novellas is outstanding.
Tesla and Logan and whatever that was was different. They were more like an old married couple than a budding attraction.

Another great story

This was another great little story set in this series. We get to see more of Tessa and Logan as they are solving another murder case together. We also get to see the other characters that we have come to know and adore. I really enjoyed this story and watching things unfold. Excited for the next one!

Struggling with narration, loving storyline

Audiobook: Narrator - Christine Williams

I’m not a fan of the narration I’ve heard with this series so far. However, I did find that if I increase the speed the cadence of voice she gives certain characters is not quite as annoying. It’s still there but is faster and a tad less obvious. I want to experience this series and life is making it so that in order to do that I need to listen instead of read which means I’m going to have to find a way this narrator can work for me.

This definitely has the feel of the previous books but it was still entertaining and the mystery remains hidden until the end. I liked the way Tessa and Logan’s relationship began to show itself in sweet, protective ways although it followed along with the main storyline rather than taking control.

My heart hurt when Cate and Tessa experienced a reunion with their memories of their friend that went missing when they were teens. The circumstances that surrounded that night are revealed and the women brought out an item that connected them all as best of friends. Yeah, my heart was totally breaking for these friends.

The women were not the only ones that gripped my heart. I ached for Logan as he struggled with his memories of his time in the service which continued to haunt him, not only through the night but by incidents that happened while he was helping Tessa.

I’m definitely finding this series entertaining and will continue to the next one.

Enjoying the series

I've enjoyed listening to the stories. I like the that wrote the book you're still learning about the main characters their lives and their relationship if not just call about the crime. one thing that does bother me is there's a lot of retelling in each book about things we've already heard in the previous book. I don't mind short synopsis of previous information but it seems to get drawn out longer and longer each book. on to the next book...
