In this remarkable recording, C. S. Lewis shows why millions of readers have acclaimed him the greatest spokesman for Christianity in the 20th century. In a resonant, baritone voice, Lewis explores the nature of the four Greek words that are translated love in English: storge (affection), philia (friendship), eros (sexual or romantic love) and agape (selfless love).

In 1973, Norma Cobb, her husband Lester, and their five children pulled up stakes in the lower 48 and headed north to Alaska to follow a pioneer dream of claiming land under the Homestead Act. The only land available lay north of Fairbanks near the Arctic Circle where grizzlies outnumbered humans 20 to one. In addition to fierce winters and predatory animals, the Alaskan frontier drew the more unsavory elements of society's fringes. From the beginning, the Cobbs found themselves pitted in a life or death feud with unscrupulous neighbors who would rob from new settlers.

1905 Classic Dog/Wolf/Man Tale
In my quest to fill in the gaps of my unread classics, this is another book completed. I didn't love it; a little too much animal cruelty and violence between animals. The kill or be killed, kill to eat and survive... I have never liked books written from an animals point of view and this is mostly told from 3/4 Wolf 1/4 dog - White Fang. That said, it was an interesting process as he moved from wild to tame, though a variety of owners and living situations. It's a fairly quick read, doesn't cost much and was glad I read. Probably an older boy book, with some discussion on why people and animals turn out like they do and how White Fang evolves because of his treatment.

Another Great Classic!!
What did you love best about White Fang?
I love that it comes from the dogs point of view.
What was one of the most memorable moments of White Fang?
When his final owner saves him from the "beast"
What does Bob Thomley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Tom does a great job in making all the characters accents and voices. You can really get the feeling and the idea of all the different people that are involved.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Life is tough when you're part wolf And they know it

"The law is: Eat or be Eaten"
I have read this book before but never listened to it. This was a great listen while working in the garden and doing my needlework.
This book is a companion piece to Call of the Wild in the fact that it tells the opposite story. The story of a wolf who survives hardship and misery only to experience love and trust in his later years.
All is told from the wolf's point of view and except for Black Beauty I have never read a better attempt than this.
Bob Thomley is a great narrator who reads with great emphasis and empathy.
White Fang lived such a harsh life and I really was pulling for him to overcome that and find peace.
I love this book!

Very Simply Written
I thoroughly enjoyed White Fang- partly for the story and partly for the "straight-to-the-point" writing style. The plot was interesting albeit slow in a way where you knew what was going to happen well before it happened. The events and timeline each had their purpose in the story, but the process of getting from one point to the next felt slow due to its predictability. My only other gripe with this book was the author's attempt to write about nature. As someone who reads a lot of books on nature by authors such as Gary Paulsen and John Muir, I could tell Jack London spent little time in the woods. He just couldn't present the descriptive elements or "feel-like-you're-there" imagery like John Muir, or encapsulate the mentality of respect for nature like Gary Paulsen. Obviously that's a subjective gripe for the book, but good imagery is needed in a book that takes place mostly in the wild.

Very glad that I bought this
London found a surprisingly good forum to demonstrate his psychological insight, and I believe that my own insights are expanded from having listened to this audiobook. My only complaint is that it ends somewhat abruptly and inconclusively.
