Publisher's Summary

In Chicago, someone has been killing practitioners of magic, those incapable of becoming full-fledged wizards. Shockingly, all the evidence points to Harry Dresden's half brother, Thomas, as the murderer. Determined to clear his sibling's name, Harry uncovers a conspiracy within the White Council of Wizards that threatens not only him, but his nearest and dearest, too.

What the critics say

“What’s not to like about this series?...It takes the best elements of urban fantasy, mixes it with some good old-fashioned noir mystery, tosses in a dash of romance and a lot of high-octane action, shakes, stirs, and serves.” (SF Site)

“A tricky plot complete with against-the-clock pacing, firefights, explosions, and plenty of magic. Longtime series fans as well as newcomers drawn by the SciFi Channel’s TV series based on the novels should find this supernatural mystery a real winner.” (Library Journal)

“What would you get if you crossed Spenser with Merlin? Probably you would come up with someone very like Harry Dresden, wizard, tough guy and star of [the Dresden Files].” (The Washington Times)

James Marsters for the win!

Jim Butcher does it again with another gripping entry in the Dresden Files. If you love urban fantasy I can’t recommend this series enough and there’s no Harry for me but James Marsters. Spending my afternoons with that voice is 100% the icing on any literary cake. 10/10 on all counts ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

predict

one comes to accept a level of predictability with Dresden Files. for example, female vamps will be described from nipped to fangs in exquisite detail.

3rd time's a charm

I'm re-listening to this series for the 3rd time before I crack into 'Peace Talks'. And it's joyfully killing me after waiting so long for a.nrw Dresden installment. It's a series full of action, emotion and witty humour. I can never land on which character is my favourite and I love that Jim Butcher allows his supporting characters shine along with the lead.
The narration and vocal performance is astounding.

The Dresden Files series has the modern times of our lives along with the fantasy and glamor for the mind to dream away the regular boredom.
This book is no exception - it was another amazing adventure! 📚 and another well read book with suspense, amusement, and fantasies.

Great

Very good story once again that had a lot of interesting twists. I like a lot of the other stories more, however this one was still good.

One of the better books in an amazing series

Butcher is awesome, took awhile to shift from voices in my head to Marsters version of it, but he's got me hooked now!
