Publisher's Summary

In the newest Night Rebel novel, set in New York Times best-selling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, beautiful, daring vampire Veritas risks all to protect Ian....

Some promises are meant to be broken....

Veritas spent most of her life as a vampire Law Guardian. Now, she’s about to break every rule by secretly hunting down the dark souls that were freed in order to save Ian. But the risks are high. For if she gets caught, she could lose her job. And catching the sinister creatures might cost Veritas her own life.

Some vows are forever....

Ian’s memories might be fragmented, but this master vampire isn’t about to be left behind by the woman who entranced him, bound herself to him, and then disappeared. So what if demons, other Law Guardians, and dangerous, otherworldly forces stand against them? Come hell or high water, Ian intends to remind Veritas of the burning passion between them, because she is the only person seared on his mind - and his soul....

As Good as the First!

Revelations continue. I'm really enjoying the story of Ian and Veritas. Twists and turns - you neve know what's going to be revealed or happen next. The ending was satisfying and intriguing.

Obligatory heading

I prefer my vampires less mystical, and the characters in the series seem to be getting more and more overpowered. Also, why do they keep saying there are only 3 races when it's becoming clear there are at least one or two more than that?

Narrator Tavia Gilbert masterfully delivered another favorite vampire paranormal romance, by Jeaniene Frost. This author and narrator team is one of the best out there. Tavia’s ability to carry different voices and accents stands out shoulder high above most female, including male narrators. Her performances feels like it is a multi-cast, instead of only one narrator. Each book she performs, is an experience of unending smiles and laughter. The unique personalities of her characters melts perfectly with the genre, her male and female voices are of such high quality I forget that I am listening to a woman. Her natural voice is neutrally pleasant to listen to.

Ian’s mind may be halfway deleted, the man is so fucking arrogant, his dying, resurrection and mindwipes, does not affect him. At all!

I enjoyed him tremendously, he is highly intelligent, always calculating, and he loves Veritas so much, I am jealous of her. Together, they go on a mission to once and for all catch the demon Dagon, who started all the shit in the first place. Ian wakes up and finds Dagon’s mark under his balls is gone, he knows he is married, but his wife is gone, his memory is half way gone and his friends, Cat and Bones patience are gone.

This turns out to be an epic journey, and boy, it’s unforgettable. Yes, the good guys win, but the world building and character development is of such high quality, it felt like I was watching a movie.

I absolutely recommend this audiobook. It’s part of a series, so I recommend listening to it in reading order. If you truly want to enjoy this start with the Night Huntress series. All the characters appear in this series.

Happy Listening

Long live Ian and Veritas!!!

Like most people I feel like I have been waiting for this book forever. Shades of Wicked is one my favorite books and it set a high bar for me. I am thrilled to say at this book was just as good as I hoped. Ian and Veritas are my favorite couple from the Night huntress series. Their chemistry together is explosive and their personalities mesh so well together that half the time they make me want to laugh or cry. I enjoyed seeing all of the old characters from the previous books as well as meeting a lot of beer a I enjoyed seeing all of the old characters from the previous books as well as meeting a lot of there a new interesting new interesting ones. and with the way this book ended I’m already counting down the days till the release of the next one.

As always Tavia Gilbert did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life with her narration. This book is worth a credit to anyone looking for excitement, love, and laughs.

Very annoying

I hated the story. I hated the characters. I hated the narration (too many thick accents). It wasn't fun, unlike prior books in the series. And it was hard to follow with too many new or previously infrequent characters, as well as a murky convoluted plot that really made no sense since there were too many contrived complications.

Loved the book

Could have done without the breathy, high pitch shriek of the narrator’s voice every time Veritas got panicked, which, let’s face it, happened a lot. It was really irritating, and I had to turn the volume down until I could barely hear it.

Still, the book was everything I’ve wanted from Frost since I met Ian in the Cat and Bones books. The depth of openness, passion, and caring between Veritas and Ian was absolutely perfect. There were plenty of thrills and scares and adventure, but there was also room for dates and sharing and closeness.

Veritas was annoying

Normally I love all of the characters in this series but Veritas was hard to listen to this time. She was constantly whining or hysterical about something making the book drag.

Disappointing

This book is just exhausting to listen to. Hard to tell if it's the story line or the narration, but I could only listen to it for short time periods. Even had to skip to the end after so much angst and pseudo suspense. Won't be purchasing the 3rd book. Update 7/17/22: Narrator even more annoying the 2nd time. Especially after listening to Will M. Watt narrating "The Other Half of the Grave" giving Bones the voice he deserves, Ms. Gilbert shrieking hysterically really grated and reduced Veritas/Ariel to less than a weak, sniveling "human". Waste of what may have been a great listen with a better narrator.

Disappointed for first time

I absolutely love Jeaniene Frost and her Night Hundreds series and the spin-off series. I eagerly awaited the first book in this Ian spin-off and was well pleased with it except for narrator Tavia Gilbert. Once again Ms. Gilbert has ruined it for me. She could not stay in character with Veritas, making the narration irritating thus taking away from the story. Also, I had a hard time focusing on this story line. It did not flow easily like all the others. I am excited that there will be a third book but if Ms. Gilbert is narrating, I'll have to buy the Kindle version or print version. Sadly her voice has become irritating to me. All in all it was a good read, not a fabulous read, just a good read.

Veritas' story, needs more Ian to keep me engaged

Seemed more and more fantastical. The book had a lot of Veritas' backstory and was less about their relationship. I was bored and wanted more of Ian's behavior and less of Veritas angst.

Ian and Veritas’s story continues with some twists and turns. Not my favorite book in the series, but most definitely needed info was given. I am anxious to see what comes next.
