Publisher's Summary

Every man was once a boy. And every little boy has dreams, big dreams: dreams of being the hero, of beating the bad guys, of doing daring feats and rescuing the damsel in distress. Every little girl has dreams, too: of being rescued by her prince and swept up into a great adventure, knowing that she is the beauty.

But what happens to those dreams when we grow up? Walk into most churches, have a look around, and ask yourself: What is a Christian man? Without listening to what is said, look at what you find there. Most Christian men are...bored.

In Wild at Heart, John Eldredge invites men to recover their masculine heart, defined in the image of a passionate God. And he invites women to discover the secret of a man's soul and to delight in the strength and wildness men were created to offer.

What the critics say

"The exceptional writing and ideational balance (and a sensitive interpretation by Kelly Dolan) make this a compelling effort to integrate the hero's gritty nature with the public good." (AudioFile)

Tons of Illogical Inferences - Blasphemous Book!

It makes perfect sense that this book is a best seller. Unfortunately its for all the wrong reasons: Just like 2 Timothy 4:3 says “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;”

The main issue with this book is this: Assumption, and inordinate inference. He often assumes the desire wants and thoughts of God, which is blasphemy to say that you know Gods thoughts, heart and wants of God (Romans 11:34, Isaiah 55:8-9).

He takes creation as the starting point, and begins making all sort of false inferences based on looking from whats made towards the maker. When what he should be doing is looking from the maker and the word he has given us towards creation, His starting point is wrong, and thus literally all his conclusions are wrong. An example of this is "Oh look at bears, and whales and sharks, God must be wild because I consider those things wild!" However, to God these might not be wild, but orderly or something else entirely. We are not God, and our perceptions are not the same as God's. Also a HUGE piece of information missing, that is the original design versus the tainted sinful result of the fall. Animals never used to eat animals in much as humans never ate animals either, in fact the Bible says in Isaiah 11:6-9 that all animals will be at peace BECAUSE the KNOWLEDGE of the LORD. Talk about a verse that completely destroys his false heretical teachings. Animals are not "Wild At Heart" because God made them that way, but because the fall. And when the day comes to restore all things that "Wildness" will be gone in accordance to finally having the Knowledge of the LORD.

If he wanted to be accurate, he would of looked to Eden for his backwards creation toward creator theology, however he doesn't. He uses false inference, and the wrong starting point in all of his arguments. AND, when he starts the book he starts it off with: "these are even more true!"

Talk about confirmation bias ladies and gentlemen. Now I got a few hours in before I couldn't take it anymore I recommend you find another more theologically sound book. It is entirely laughable, and sinful to say, your perception of creation, then denotes the thoughts and heart of God. Blasphemy!

Amazing Listen

It’s well narrated and the message is delivered wonderfully. This book helped me to understand the many different struggles as a man and ways of understanding and navigating through them.

John is the best.

The book is incredible. It's not easy being a man today, looking for something definitively masculine AND Christian to grind yourself from time to time. There simply aren't many string rule models, or books that seem to get what we truly need: unapologetic Christian masculinity that doesn't over compensate, and is supported by actual biblical truth (aka. It accurately reflects and uses the Bible's teachings). This book nails it though. Across the board. He's not pretending to be some alpha, former navy seal, but he's comfortable in claiming his masculinity in a holistic, healthy, and humble way. Not my first time through, and it certainly won't be my last.

Very worthwhile listen!

I love John's reading style. The fact the author himself reads the book adds credibility and authenticity. Thanks John

A call to be a man

This book really draws you in and draws out what it is to be a man of God. In our modern day we have forgotten what it looks like to be a strong man and lead. This book really narrows in on that and calls us higher. We were meant to be more than docile men who sit on the sidelines, watching life go by. GOD MADE US FOR MORE. Read it and find out :)

Good points, religious approach

This work touches on a lot of men's issues, many himan nature things. I enjoyed it, and it benefitted me. Written from a Christian angle, I dont have context as Im not Christian so I gotta read up to really get it.

Great listen

this book was a really valuable tool. I'm not Christion and I could do without the Bible pieces, however if you listen around it the message is worth the effort.
