Publisher's Summary
Eloisa James returns to the Wildes of Lindow Castle series with the next Wilde child who runs and joins a theatre troupe - and the duke who tries to save her reputation.
He wants a prim and proper duchess, not the Wildest of the Wildes!
Already notorious for the golden hair that proves her mother’s infidelity, Lady Joan can’t seem to avoid scandals, but her latest escapade may finally ruin her: she’s determined to perform the title role of a prince - in breeches, naturally.
She has the perfect model for an aristocratic male in mind: Thaddeus Erskine Shaw, Viscount Greywick, a man who scorned the very idea of marrying her.
Not that Joan would want such a dubious honor, of course.
For years, Thaddeus has avoided the one Wilde who shakes his composure, but he’s horrified when he grasps the danger Joan’s putting herself in. Staring into her defiant eyes, he makes the grim vow that he’ll keep her safe.
He strikes a bargain: after one performance, the lady must return to her father’s castle and marry one of three gentlemen whom he deems acceptable.
Not including him, of course.

Great read
Eloisa writes in such a way that you can feel the characters emotions. I love how detailed she gets in her story plots. And those “ love “ scenes...... whew they are hot! Susan’s narration is always perfection. Another big thumbs up from me!!-Alisa D.

Another fabulous Wilde!
The Wildes of Lindow Castle series has produced another hit. As a fan of Eloisa James and this series in particular I was hopeful that this next book in the series would be just as good as the others and I was not disappointed. This is the story of Joan, the illegitimate child of the second Duchess and her lover, and Thaddeus, future Duke of Eversley. I adore Joan’s sense of humor and her unapologetic love for theater and the dramatic. Thaddeus is a character that we have seen throughout the series who finally gets to tell his story and find his HEA with Wilde after all. Susan Duerden is brilliant and brings such heart and incredible talent to this audio production. They way she totally differentiates between so many characters is amazing and makes this a 5 star listen for me. Totally worth a credit for lovers of historical romance.

Finding love
I had to listen to all the Wilde’s again until I got to Joan’s story. Loved Thaddeus and Joan. All she ever wanted to do was act on a stage and when she gets a chance thanks to Thaddeus help she decides it’s not for her. She never anticipated falling in love with the future Duke. Thaddeus had been loved by his mother but his father the current Duke lived with his mistress and their family together. He threatened that he would tell the world that he was not legally married to Thaddeus mother unless he gave up the title so his son with his mistress can claim the title. Thaddeus always knew his father hated him. With Joan’s help she gets him through it and he falls in love with her. A beautifully written story. Can’t wait to read more on the family.

Marginally better than say Yes to the Duke
I returned Say YES to the Duke as it was a waste of my library space. This one is just so so. No moments that give you the feels. I was just ok.
Still like Betsy’s story the best...Aunt Knowe shines in that one. ❤️

no pressure Miss James. but I love this series! I can't believe how much I laugh through this stuff. that first scene of Thaddeus and Joan on the island and he gets shall we say aroused and she's screaming and pointing at it I was doubled over peeing myself practically. I love this series. thank you so much for the entertainment and joy in your writing. unbelievable storyteller and I got to tell you this narrator Susan Duerden is the best narrator for male and female voices or should I say female and male voices unbelievable talent in the narration. thank you so much.

Original
This is a fairly decent audible. From my perspective the narrator is brings the story down. Maybe it would have been better with a male voice. Also dialogue was frequently whiny and brooding. I’d give it a solid B to B+. Ok to spend a credit on but won’t be a favorite.

Excellent story telling, funny & sexy
I love strong female heroines who are a bit quirky. The author was able to immerse me in her story. All the characters came alive Exec for the too arch evil father at the end. They scenes were HOT. Also, this was the first time in any romance novel I’ve read where they admitted sex us messy, sweaty, etc. Usually the couple finishes and gets dressed without any leaky issues. All in all a throughly enjoyable listen.

Entertaining but too much sex
I think this author is good and her stories are original and creative but about halfway through it jumps the shark with far too much emphasis on sex and I mean explicit sex. I don't mind a little of that but it seems that the story runs out of steam on its own and turns to sensuality as filler. Disappointing. The story doesn't really need it and the scenes become like annoying infomercials on late-night TV reruns. It would have been more fun in this story to know more about Otis and Madeline, Thaddeus's other family, his mother's way of coping with it for so many years. I like this era and genre but do wish it had more history, detail and less dependence on sex scenes for page filler.
