Publisher's Summary

A powerful story set against the backdrop of today's Israel.

Nothing in Abigail MacLeod's life as a wife, a mother, and a teacher has prepared her for what she will experience during her summer in Israel. At 42, her life is in chaos, even before she leaves home - her marriage is dissolving before her very eyes, and her faith is in shambles. This pilgrimage to Israel was supposed to be a new beginning for her. But by the end of the first day, she is forced to board an Israeli jetliner in spite of a bomb threat and watches helplessly as a kind, fatherly gentleman she befriended on the plane dies in her arms.

This is a summer Abby will spend learning about archaeology, delving into the past. And it's a summer that will change her life in ways she never imagined.

One Piece if a much Bigger Design

I have hopped and skipped through a lot of Christian fiction. Almost always with disappointment. Too often the Christianity was just thrown in at the end with little real conviction or evidence of a Christian walk in the characters. Often the plot was as shallow as the characters. I love heavy fiction with memorable characters and plots as complex as real life. I also love Jesus and want to relate to characters who are attempting to follow Him, as I do. Finally, Lynn Austin has delivered on all counts! If you are a summer, beach chair kind of reader- you might not like this one. But if you are a serious Christian and a serious reader, I think you will enjoy this book. This would also be an excellent book to share with a Jewish friend that you hope to lead to the Lord.

Excellent read!

Intertwining historical events with human drama, sprinkled with intrigue and passion, makes this an amazing adventure. It was a very captivating story with great moral lessons around each twist and turn.

Beautifully woven story

Lynn Austin never disappoints in her story writing. This time she brings to life the life and times of multiple generations of the Jewish people. Their joys, sorrows, the wars, the ancient history and the not so ancient history. She also beautifully weaves the message of salvation into her story, by explaining the Passover in light of Christ’s last day and sacrifice. And how peace is only found through Christ, through Grace and Forgiveness.

Also Romy Nordlinger does a masterful job of drawing you into the story. She is a new favorite, not once did I remember that it was only one person’s voice I was hearing.

interesting turns, not her best story but good

Good but lacked the fire of so of the other books she has written. I liked the Bible times story the most.

Great History

What a wonderful book! I love historical fiction, and what history is more important to the Christian than Jewish history and the history of the first Christians? Mixed in is a wonderful telling of the gospel and the prophecies of the Messiah. Intricately interwoven stories from multiple generations make the history easier to visualize, understand, and remember. Stories of conflict, forgiveness, and redemption!

The narrator was very good. So many voices done well. I was disappointed that, during the most deeply emotional parts, she didn't have the depth of emotion the manuscript called for. Otherwise her acting was great.

Didn’t like narrator.

Hard to get into because of the voice. Too young preschool type story telling. I really wanted to get into it too

Great story, but disliked the reading.

It was difficult to experience the story when the reader described dramatic, sorrowful and tragic events as if they are fluffy unicorns and cotton candy.

Difficult to follow

Definitely struggled to finish this book. So many detours, very hard to keep track. The narrator was very hard to follow, as she tried doing accents & male & female voices. I almost quit several times.
