À propos de cet audio

Fueled by a passion for running dogs, Gary Paulsen entered the Iditarod - the 1,180-mile sled-dog race through the Alaskan wilderness - in dangerous ignorance and with a fierce determination. For 17 days, he and his team of dogs endured blinding wind, snowstorms, frostbite, dogfights, moose attacks, sleeplessness, hallucinations - and the relentless push to go on.

Winterdance is the enthralling account of a "stunning wilderness journey of discovery and transformation" (Chicago Tribune), lived and told by "the best author of man-against-nature adventures writing today" (Publishers Weekly).

This was a thoroughly enjoyable listen. I have always been fascinated by the Iditarod, but haven’t understood much about sled dogs and the race itself. It seems that Gary didn’t either, so it was fun to follow along as he figured it out, acquired his dogs, trained his team, and survived his first race, His lively spirit and sense if humour meant there was never a dull moment. And his respect of the dogs was heartwarming. Highly recommended.

Delightful

Such a great adventure story. Paulsen is solid writer. I come back to this one every couple of years. I noticed some people complaining about swearing. It’s a true story and under the circumstances swearing seems more than appropriate.

Makes you feel the race

Wintedance is a one man love story for his sled dogs, his journey from "down below" to Alaska to run the Iditarod and the fine madness that he experienced there. Unforgettable characters, cookie, max, devil, dogs one ****ing moose, and people that gave so much of their time love energy and money to make the Iditarod happen. Gary's harrowing and holy experience throughout is narrated by a gravely voice that might have been the authors own. The pauses the emphasis in just the RIGHT places but with a consistent dry wit and understatement that draw you in, you will be looking around every bend in the trail to see what happens next.

riveting and colourfull story about dog sled racing
