Publisher's Summary

Reigning queen of paranormal romantic comedy Molly Harper is back with the first book in a spellbinding new series!

Riley Denton-Everett always felt like something was missing in her life—and her numerous odd jobs and short-lived relationships haven’t brought her any closer to finding it. Everything changes when she receives a mysterious message: You’re a Denton. You belong on Starfall Point. Once you’re here, I’ll tell you everything you need to know.

When Riley arrives on the island, she learns her aunt has left her a historic mansion brimming with haunted antiques. Turns out, that’s not the only thing she’s inherited. Riley also hails from a long line of witches whose magic is critical to protecting the living.

Edison Held, the town’s frustratingly hot librarian, is completely unaware of the ghosts in Riley’s ancestral home and is determined to convince her to open it up to the public. Riley starts to wonder if Edison’s knowledge of the island’s history can help her get a handle on her new powers—but can she trust him with her secrets? And can she trust herself with the simmering attraction brewing between them?

Surprisingly Entertaining

This moderately silly lighthearted story about a flirty girl meeting an impossibly sweet guy and starting a 'Scooby-doo'-level coven to deal with her estranged family's ghost situation is best characterized as "charming".
Generally when I listen to anything with a "paranormal" twist, it's leaning towards Horror or Nonfiction Occult genres (Comedy/Romance with that flavoring isn't really in my wheelhouse).. but I went into this one with an open mind. I mean, why not? It's "free", after all. I'm glad that I gave it a chance.
To be sure, Molly Adams is never going to win any writing awards, but her vocabulary, prose, dialogue, and plotting are passable. In addition, the author's "I don't take myself too seriously" attitude comes across as sophomoric.. but is also refreshing (the way that the occasional pancake with syrup for supper is a pleasant change).

Less fortunately, the tale is let down somewhat with subpar narration. Amanda Ronconi (reading "hauntingly beautiful" lovable aimless-misfit-cum-incipient-sorceress 'Riley Denton-Everett') and Teddy Hamilton (reading handsome, brilliant, vulnerable town librarian 'Edison Held') read professionally - but both exhibit below-average voice-acting (particularly characters of the opposite sex). In addition, Ronconi far overenunciates and Hamilton reads maddeningly slowly (listen at 1.20X).
Audible Originals could have cast this project better.

If you can get past the stoopid elements of the story - and some awkwardly contrived melodramatic character backgrounds - 'Witches Get Stuff Done' rates 5.5 stars out of 10. Check your brain at the door and just enjoy the playful banter & flirting (*Note: if you plan on listening with kids, it gets X-rated in places). If you can manage some lowered expectations, the audiobook is a fun distraction for a couple of snowy afternoons.
On the other hand, spend your Credit on something else if they ask for one.

It was okay. Very light, read and a bit cheesy

It's a 3.25 not too bad. Very light but there were some funny parts. Not much of a mystery but I enjoyed the female characters and their interactions with eachother. Felt the guy had no personality. Overall very quick read.

Meh. More of a mystery than a romance. Left me wanting

Loved the male narrator. The female narrator lacked emotion, which made me zone out a lot. Often, I had to restart the female pov chapters because my mind wandered.

Told in the 3rd person, which had me constantly confused as to who was doing / saying what.

Romance wise, it left me wanting. It’s more of a mystery than a romance. The romantic connection is told in a very matter of factly kind of way. It lacked emotion.

Fun lighthearted story

This was a really cute book! A woman who finds out she’s a witch and from a long line of witches who help ghosts in an old hunted house.

She Mets two wonderful women who end up being her best friends and coven members & she fall in love with the local librarian.

Unfortunately there’s people out there that want to use darker magic to make the ghosts do evil & there are things in her house she needs to find and destroy all well still learning about her new powers.

It was a fun lighthearted book

Good light listen

With only 16 chapters I was a little nervous but the story turned out good and lighthearted!

Meh

Good for an easy listen, cute and somewhat interesting story idea if it had been fleshed out more.
I felt certain things were a bit too much however. The instalove goes hard on this one. The protagonist apparently having a huge array of skills because she bounced from one rando job to another? Right. The whole town giving dude the 3rd degree because he occupied the bathroom for too long? Suuuure. The pacing was off too, which made things feel so rushed. In the beginning it's May and then a chapter later the summer is almost over. She showed us how they dealt with the first ghosty, but skipped past so many potential stories and interactions with the townsfolk on the rest of them. How do you even deal with some of these "unfinished business" types from AROUND THE WORLD, and somehow never leave the island?
While I love hearing from male POV in romances (and Teddy's voice is always delicious) I felt his POV was just an add-on as an excuse to add the romance. You could have completely removed his POV and nothing would have changed with the story.
I didn't find anything particularly "funny" so I wouldn't call this a romantic "comedy", and for the love of god it's foy-yay!
But if you like light romance, light supernatural, and no heavy lifting, then it's entertaining and worth a free listen.
