Publisher's Summary

From the best-selling author of the Remaining series...

They took everything - killed his wife, enslaved his daughter, destroyed his life. Now he's a man with nothing left to lose...and that's what makes him so dangerous.

Ten years after the collapse, Huxley has built a good life again. He has a loving wife, a farm with fields of golden barley, and a daughter with a strange and wonderful gift. Then the slavers come. Working out in the fields during the attack, Huxley returns too late. His daughter has been taken, and his wife is bleeding out, her last whispered words about a man with a scorpion tattoo on his neck.

Where do the slavers go? Huxley has no idea. He knows only that they head east, and so will he, setting out on foot across the desert of the Wastelands. Eighteen months into his journey, he has no hope of ever seeing his daughter alive. Dying of thirst in the open desert, he doesn't even expect to see another day.

Then a man appears out of the desert and offers Huxley water from his canteen, an unheard of kindness in these savage times. Jay is an odd man, full of violence and guided by his hatred of the slavers, but he helps Huxley survive. And he gives Huxley a new purpose: Nothing can bring back the dead, but the two men can chase down the slavers and make them bleed.

Together Huxley and Jay carve a path of destruction across the remains of a once-great land. The slavers are brutal, but they have no idea what's coming for them. Huxley has found something to live for again: blood and vengeance.

In his most powerful work yet, New York Times best-selling author D. J. Molles delivers a carefully woven novel of violence and redemption, bringing to life a devastating portrait of a man pushed to the edge of his own humanity.

Relentlessly dark...

I enjoyed the story, but at times it was a bit TOO gloomy, even for an awful post-apocalyptic time. Good read though!

Review of Woves (Los Lobos)

Just finished it. I liked it. The story was good and it was as the other reviewers said: dark, depressing and violent. It was well done, in my opinion. I didn't feel that engaged when listening to the book...just a good post-apocalyptic story.

The deep voice of the narrator was fantastic, it really gave credence to the main character's personality.

Overall a great listen, especially if you're commuting to and from work, but some mornings it was just a bit too dark to listen to.

I give it 4/5 stars overall.

Good

Dark but entertaining story. Consistent even when you had to overlook some leaps. Decent characters.

Big Difference from the Remaining Series

If youre like me and have been listening to the Remaining/Harden Series, you'll notice a big difference in this book. In Wolves, the main character has no such qualms about who he has become; he has been turned from an every day, law abiding man into a cold blooded, no conscious killer. You'll have a hard time "bonding" with the characters for much of the story as you feel like you're just listening to a good story where you cant really identify with the killers but, like looking at a car wreck, you listen in fascination. But then you start to see Huxley's battle with trying to suppress his humanity so that attains his goal of finding his dfaughter, and its at that point when he starts to grow on you.Christian Rummel is masterful at his readings and makes all the series he reads even more worth listening to, in addition to the great story telling. And the ending will have you saying "wow, didnt see that coming!"

You need this book in your life.

I started this book not knowing what to expect. I knew it was a post apocalyptic story and that was it. It had good ratings, and I bought this on an impulse. I am so very glad I did.

Thanks, D.J. Molles for making me cry during my morning commute. I loved every single characters, even the "bad" ones. This is my first D.J. Molles novel, and it certainly won't be the last.

I have to also mention the AMAZING performance by Christian Rummel. Mesmerizing. It probably didn't help the case of tears on my way to work. Great author, Great Narrator. Amazing book.

IWhat???????

I really enjoyed the story. But listened to the last 2 chapters several times. I couldn’t believe it was the end! Did he run out of paper. Very unsatisfactory ending.

very well written and extremely well presented.

For me a book is well done if it plays like a movie in my head, and when I can't listen to it if I think about it, about what might happen next. Sometimes, I'm torn between going back to it because I can't wait to hear what happens next and leaving it be because I don't want it to end. This one hit all those marks for me.

An orgy if violence but a great narrator

All the characters in this story are vividly brought to life by the narrator, but what a lot of blood, death and sadness. A class is tale of tragedy and vindication, quite well written.
