Publisher's Summary

In the mist-shrouded haze of the past, the world of Azeroth teemed with wondrous creatures of every kind. Mysterious Elves and hardy Dwarves walked among tribes of Man in relative peace and harmony - until the arrival of the demonic army known as the Burning Legion shattered the world's tranquility forever. Now Orcs, Dragons, Goblins, and Trolls all vie for supremacy over the scattered, warring kingdoms - part of a grand, malevolent scheme that will determine the fate of the world of Warcraft.

Slave. Gladiator. Shaman. Warchief. The enigmatic Orc known as Thrall has been all of these. Raised from infancy by cruel human masters who sought to mold him into their perfect pawn, Thrall was driven by both the savagery in his heart and the cunning of his upbringing to pursue a destiny he was only beginning to understand to break his bondage and rediscover the ancient traditions of his people. Now the tumultuous tale of his life's journey - a saga of honor, hatred, and hope - can at last be told....

Needed a different narrator

I love the story of Thrall. The narration is tough to listen to at first but gets better as the story progresses. The orcs needed a deep male voice to portray them but Christie Golden does okay.

Miss Golden’s Magnum Opus

What can I say about this novel that others haven’t already said? It’s a great work that is worth reading.

Thrall’s humble beginnings are something to behold. Truly one of Miss Golden’s greatest literary works.

Her narration is awesome as well! I’d buy this a 3rd time if they could convince Metzen and Golden to perform it together.

Excellent

Narrator wasn't as bad as some other reviews say. Narrator has good moments of tone with some scenes and characters. Good story and great establishment of characters.

Enjoyable

it took me a good while to get through this audiobook and I don't think Christie Golden is the best narrator of all time but it is clear that she enjoyed giving all these characters a voice and passion.

great story narration mediocre

I loved the story and book but with all due respect Christie Golden needs to stick to her wonderful writing skills rather than narrating she tries but doesn't quite help the immersion. All-in-all I still thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and I'm glad it finally came out, looking forward to the next one. If her narrating all the books is what it takes to get the rest of the books out in audiobook I would still happily accept it!

A shining star anong a brightly lit sky.

It is with great pleasure l recount this to be my Second work by Golden the Third work within the Warcraft Universe, and it is with humility I regard it as the best of that which has graced my ear. Golden paints a picture so vivid that it has become admittedly a happy annoyance that the book becomes hard to put down. Like her name suggests This author's work is to be treasured and I can think of no greater pair of hands nor set of lips to regale my Warchiefs Story.

My favorite warcraft lore

The only issue is the performance. I love her writing but her voice isn't suited to a big tough orc. It's too cute, if she wrote one about Arthas or something I bet she'd knock it out of the park.

felt disappointed

unimmersive narration ruined this story for me. the story itself was good, but the female narrator failed to capture the roughness nature of orcs. Pacing was also a bit weird at some bits.
