Good start to a series but for one thing

I really enjoyed this first book and will definitely be buying the next one. However, I was a little disturbed that they just left a certain someone in the apartment without someone to care for them. It was a missing detail that bothered me through the last part of the book.

15 hours of content crunched into 11 hours

Where most adventure/romance books suffer from a lack of plot “Wormwood Summer” falls close to having the opposite problem. The story and characters build up quickly before boiling down to a core set so that reading this book feels like riding a bullet train through a gothic station.

I would have liked to have seen different pacing with the romance. The relationship feels rushed with little courtship and it becomes uncannily stable given the dynamic personalities involved. I could see this develop into a compelling plot in the next book if the author opts to explore the pitfalls and underlying motivators of a wildfire romance, particularly concerning issues of trust.

Greg Tremblay once again delivers a rich performance drawing out the heart of the characters and narrative he performs.

Overall I look forward to the next book and may pick up physical copies of this series if it develops well.

Literally a step under Excellence!!!

Simply a great, entertaining story that I Need more of!!!
It is on the longer side but was completely necessary for the amount of history and world building required to paint the backdrop of the tale but it never once felt bogged down or arduous throughout that gargantuan task! Can’t recommend highly enough.
Intimate scenes are brief and subdued so if you’re looking for graphic depictions look elsewhere.

Last but certainly not least… Greg Tremblay could teach a master class on narration and voice acting!
Seriously one of the greatest performances I’ve heard in a long time, creating, keeping straight and switching seamlessly between over a dozen uniques male and female alike, additionally adding amazingly real inflections and lending complete realism to a subject matter that could easily have been downplayed or ignored.
Possibly my new favorite Narrator!!!!

“Can I finger you?”

I mean… What is there to say? I find it end strange-that writers of this genre have no problem getting into the my nudist detail of sex, except the prep. While I’m sure most people who read this know how gay sex works, I’m imagining some team, or a curious adult on any sexual orientation, reading or listening to one of these books and then deciding “hey! I want to try this“ anyway off the soapbox and onto the meat; this writer is pretty good Dash mechanics are decent, though some mistakes were made, the dialogue is good, the setting, characterization, magical system unfortunately some subplots were dropped; did the writer forget Parker‘s abandoned car? He explains that Parker is not exactly the most altruistic or noble person, but when Parker finds himself about to be evicted, one of his clients offers to pay his bill, and he decides “oh no, I couldn’t except your money.“ I don’t know it was hard to read this book because of the almost split personality of the writing. If you reading this, or like most readers, and you’re just looking for a fun read and you’re not too picky about details, then you’ll probably give this five stars like many other readers. If, however, you are a more discriminating reader, some of the errors in this book might Also feel a little irritated and discouraged. I would say “give this book a try.” Of this review helps and if there are any errors, it’s because I’m visually impaired and I have to dictate and it’s not easy to proofread on my phone thanks

OMG

OK, so I love this story! I listened to it twice...could not get enough of it. Meeting Parker was enchanting. The characters involved in Parker's life added so much to the story. Kai Butler is phenomenal and Greg Tremblay's narration was awesomeness at it's best. Parker and Nick are so hot...in case I did not mention this, I loved this story. Can't wait for the next part...

Enjoyable

In a world exactly like ours except that magic and magical beings are accepted as part of everyday life, a relatively powerful fae/human hybrid barely eakes out a modest living as a P.I. The fact that he's also gay in a world that completely accepts this is refreshing. It never becomes an issue. Instead, these things are part of the background in a storyline that is driven by plot rather than identity. An engaging story with good characters and an excellent performance. Sometimes sexually explicit, which I also enjoyed!

Think Dresden Files or Iron Druid

Decent cast of fun characters. Interesting magic system that I really enjoyed. Plot moved along never dragging. I look forward to what comes next.

Fun Fantasy

-I found myself looking forward to my hour commute. That in and of itself is why I am leaving a note.
I'll be buying the next in this series, the cliffhanger has me intrigued. Fantasy is my go to genre, and Kai Butler did not disappoint. The story was concise allowing me to keep attention, while also finding I cared about the characters they painted with a "quickened heart".
The intimate scenes were more than I needed, but I realize this sells books. I found Parker's relationship to be sweet, funny and believable.
The magicks were explained, and fun, especially enjoying when Parker spoke to Nature to assist in his bidding. A fully developed otherworldly realm brought all of this together.
If you want a light, enjoyable Fantasy listen/read, you can't do better than Kai Butler in this new series/novel.

Fun Romantic Fantasy

This is a great start to a story family that includes Fae, Witches, Werewolves, Demons and the like. The characters show humor along with creativity as they move through their challenges.
