Publisher's Summary

Yellowstone Kelly is an Indian fighter and scout like no other. The devil-may-care Irishman can pick off hostiles and quote the classics with equal ease and accuracy. Even the mighty Sioux fear him - or most of them fear him.

Sitting Bull's main war chief, the dreaded Gall, fears no man, and Kelly has something of his that the warrior would gladly kill to get back - his woman.

Stereotypical 'Cowboys & Indians' Story

Henry Wilson Allen (writing as 'Clay Fisher') provides pretty much exactly what you would expect.
The protagonist - Luther "Yellowstone" Kelly - is handsome & strong, implausibly well-read, utterly fearless, a near-magician scout/ranger, a can't miss sharpshooter, an Olympic-level horseman, and otherwise absolutely without flaw. The bad guys (a troop of Sioux Warriors) are led by a cartoonishly wise "noble savage" named 'Gall' (Lieutenant to Sitting Bull) - alternately encouraging & trying to keep in check his band of whooping scalp-obsessed bloodthirsty braves. The plot follows a group of White men rescuing a beautiful Crow woman captured by the Sioux and then Kelly fighting the aggressive Indians who are trying to get her back. Meanwhile, reluctant romance blooms.
If it sounds clichéd, that's because it is. Allen wrote dozens of Screenplays for Western movies in the 1950s (this particular story was made into a film in 1959). He doesn't do a heck of a lot of edifying (although the treatment of the surrender of the Dakota Sioux in 1887 is treated with deference). Don't download 'Yellowstone Kelly' looking for "literature" - or even plausible Historical Fiction, however. What you will get is a creditable sample of the Movie Industry's interpretation of a "Western" adventure.
Fortunately, the vocabulary/prose is competent, the action is well-scripted, and the descriptions are vivid. The writing is of adequate quality to deliver a mind's-eye chronicle.

John Lescault does the story justice with a similarly "passable" reading performance. Lescault's diction, voice-acting, and tone are definitely professional. Less fortunately, he reads too slowly (listen at 1.10X) and with a mild lisping timbre/cadence. As I said - acceptable.

Taken in toto, this 7.5/10 star recording is worth a download. If it's made available as a 'Plus' option it's a no-brainer.. this Saturday-Morning-Serial-type romp would be great for a long, boring drive or a couple of quiet night shifts. If they ask for a Credit, however, decide if a 50s Hollywood script is what you're looking for.

[Note: The frequent use of Native words & phrases in the text is both impressive and appreciated]
