classic

Old school and not necessarily directly relevant on many investment themes today; but the approach to investing and way of thinking is eternal

not for beginners

This book is fine if you are looking for advanced value buying opportunities. This is not a basic how to for beginners. I'm simply not into the techniques presented in this book.

Good book if interested in the niche he discusses

This is a good book if you’re interested in profiting from bankruptcies, mergers, acquisitions and spinoffs. If not, then it’s not an appropriate book for you.

Overall the reader was entertaining and the information interesting.

I had high hopes of this book

this work is highly recommended by several experts. however it's sort of difficult to follow and it's advanced not intermediate or beginner level. the author does point out some opportunities however there is no proof on the data particularly when you get to spin offs today for example there are ETF spinoff funds that don't beat the market as one of the many example of the books fallacies.

apologize for the grammar because my summary was a voice to text

Excellent book

I am a reasonably knowledgeable person in finance.. but was blown away from this book. It really goes into details and shares the secrets to outperform the market. Will recommend to any serious investor who is ready to put in work to get great results.

Great for experienced investors

I recommend this book for anyone who already has down the fundamentals of investing. This book dives into much more advanced topics such as spin-off opportunities And special corporate circumstances. If you’re new to investing I highly recommend you read other more basic investing books first. There’s lots of great information in here and you will discover many new ways to find investment opportunities. Highly recommended for the advanced investor.

needs an update

all examples are from pre-1994. even discussion about research is all pre-internet! needs a revision like most great books.

Too advanced for a simple investor

Most of the tips are irrelevant unless stock trading is your day job. The content seems to be valid and well grounded, but goes well beyond simple stock buy and sell.

Educational, easy to grasp

Loved Greenblatt's humor all throughout. He's far from another "hot tip" talking head.

Ross was a pleasure to listen to!

Old content but still interesting

The book was published in the mid 90s and I guess put into audiobook not that long ago? It was good. Some interesting insights. Though examples etc were quite dated.

Misleading title

He specializes in alternative investments not typical investments that most people seek. Corny sense of humor and u won't become a genius reading this title. I actually think it's a super big waste of time and the guys a fake. Did not improve my investment skills.
