Publisher's Summary

Too many of us are living disconnected from our bodies, chasing a constantly moving target of "ideal," and accepting the societal narrative about which bodies are deserving of safety and protection. In an effort to keep ourselves safe, we shame, push aside, and assimilate parts of ourselves that don't align with the cultural norm. In turn, we are disconnected from our bodies and therefore from our humanity, losing sight of the true nature of who we are and who we were born to be.

Your Body Is a Revolution is an invitation to reclaim what has been stolen from us, to embrace the wisdom our bodies long to share, and to fully inhabit our lives. Embodiment coach Tara Teng helps us untangle ourselves from centuries of body-based oppression built into our societal systems or masquerading as religion and teaches us to slow down and listen to the wisdom that comes through somatic practices. When we embrace right relationship with our bodies, we also come into right relationship with all things: ourselves, each other, the earth, and our spirituality.

Take back what society says is too much, too loud, too feminine, too masculine, too gay, too worldly, too unique to fit into the restrictive mold built by patriarchy, colonization, and white supremacy. Come back home to the place you were always searching for. Here, your whole self is welcome.

Beautifully written

Thank you Tara! This was so beautifully written. I’m so glad you narrated your own book—it made it even better to hear your words spoken in the way you meant them to be.

A Must-Listen!

This book is such a beautiful overview of the intersectionality of what it means to be a human in today's world. It covers patriarchy, capitalism, trauma, decolonization, antiracism, religion, sexuality, and environmental stewardship while brilliantly weaving in beautiful stories into one cohesive narrative. Easy to read yet so much depth and learning in each chapter. As someone recovering from religious trauma, this book will be one that I return to many times and gift to others on a similar journey.

I've read this book in paper form and listened to the audio book, and wow was it special hearing it in Tara's voice! Beautifully read and something special about the tradition of oral storytelling to allow the content to really sink in.

A MUST READ!!!! A work of art in Words

A MUST READ!!!! ‘Your body is a Revolution’ by my beautiful friend @misstarateng . This book has shaken my very soul as I began reading her words and then switched it up to listening to the book on audible so I could let her words swim through my body.

“And yes, spirituality and holiness are even present in the few final moments at the bedside of a loved one as they split away from us into the next realm. Or the silent prayers of my heart as I lie on the floor of my bedroom, sobbing, because I simply cannot make sense of the world around me, and my grief feel almost too much to bear. These are the moments of holiness…”.

This book is woven together with profound beauty and invites you to journey back home to self and community. The ideas of reciprocal living with self, others, the earth and coming into right relationship has been words I needed to hear.

I invite you to soak in these words. Thanks Tara for the piece of art.
