Publisher's Summary

The New York Times bestselling “new Agatha Christie” (Air Mail) Ruth Ware returns with this adrenaline-fueled thriller that combines Mr. and Mrs. Smith with The Fugitive about a woman in a race against time to clear her name and find her husband’s murderer.

Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her horror, the police are closing in on their suspect—her.

Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer in this unputdownable and heart-pounding mystery from an author whose “propulsive prose keeps readers on the hook and refuses to let anyone off until all has been revealed” (Shelf Awareness).

Good suspenseful mystery

I was a little nervous after seeing so many low reviews, but I'm glad I didn't let them put me off. This book did not disappoint. It had slow moments, more than most of her other works, but I didn't find them too difficult to get through. It was suspenseful and kept me guessing. Imogen did a great job with the narration, though I found it a bit slow and had to speed it up to 1.4 to suit my own personal preference. Overall, loved it!

Brilliantly Written

If I could give this book a million stars I would!!! I mean this book had me wrecked from 'Minus Seven Days' (Chapter 2) and it did not put me back together. I love a good first person narration, and it was so vivid I felt like I was experiencing everything right along with Jac.

And that ending ... 😭😭😭
I LOVED IT!!!

Slow storyline despite the situation.

I usually love Ware’s books, but this one was a tad bit boring. There were not enough characters to keep you guessing on who really killed Gabe. And the ending was kind of predictable. I enjoyed the narrator though.

Great Narration, Okay Story

Imogen Church does an amazing job of bringing the characters to life. This tho is not one of my favourite Ruth Ware novels. I miss her more Gothic storylines. This one was very repetitious (did not need to hear about her wound, pain and dressing changes over and over again) and pretty predicable. Its was okay.

Other reviews are way too low for this.

I almost did not read this book because the reviews were so bad. I had automatically ordered it because I am a big fan of Ruth Ware. although I agree that this was not her best work, I cannot understand how low some of the reviews are. I read a lot of audiobooks, and there are many that deserve very low reviews. This is not one of them.

If you compare this book to the author's other work, it is not as good. However, I enjoyed it very much. The performance was excellent. and the story was very interesting. there was no point at which I felt bored or that the story was obvious to me.

It was thrilling and diverting, and I think it was well worth reading. The other reviews seem a little bit vindictive. They are so insanely low that it is both unfair and hard to believe. I probably would not have written a review for this book except for the fact that the other reviews are so unfair.

another good story by Ruth Ware

Ruth Ware is one of my favorite authors, and this didn't feel like her typical book, but I enjoyed it and couldn't stop listening until it was done. it reminded me a bit of the net with Sandra bullock , glad I downloaded and glad I listened, looking forward to the next new release.
