In our unique genomes, every one of us carries the story of our species - births, deaths, disease, war, famine, migration, and a lot of sex. But those stories have always been locked away - until now. Who are our ancestors? Where did they come from? Geneticists have suddenly become historians, and the hard evidence in our DNA has completely upended what we thought we knew about ourselves. Acclaimed science writer Adam Rutherford explains exactly how genomics is completely rewriting the human story - from 100,000 years ago to the present.

Some good ideas some not.
Some great ideas for cutting waste, but recommending i get rid of things and replace them with more sustainable goods? Why would you not wear out items you already own. Manufacturing has its own footprint. Use what you have! Replace as needed with more waste free alternatives. Future purchases given more thought, but use what you already have first.

Inspiring
Another book I'm going to have to buy in hard copy.
I think some of her changes are a little extreme, and frankly the opposite of simplifying anything, but I've been working towards reducing my negative environmental impact for a while and I know there's more I can do. It's difficult living in a condo without outdoor space, and not being rich like the author's family, but there are lots of good tips here.

Practical and unconventional. Not superficial.
Didn't particularly grip me at start but as it progressed and started to get down into practical suggestions, how-to's and very relatable situations, it got much more interesting to my pleasant surprise. I'm glad it wasn't overly superficial. I've bookmarked several sections and I'll certainly be referencing back to these areas in future. I'm very happy to have read this book.

Okay, but not as an audiobook
I didn’t the middle of this book, decent content with only slight “judging” from the author. It was a little hard to start however, as this book is mostly lists. Sounds like there is supposed to be a picture or two to go along with some descriptions, but being an audiobook you can’t see the pictures.
An hour left of the book and I couldn’t finish anymore thanks to the narrator’s voice. I might recommend the book, but won’t recommend it as an audiobook.

Informative, and Important for All Ages!
This audio book was fantastic! I have always had a place in my heart for the environment and simple living, but grew up in a home where buying was #1. It felt wrong and I felt off every time a new thing was brought into the home. When I got married and left home, I felt as though that weight was lifted!
My husband is not as diligent as myself with things such as composting for example, however he agrees there is no since in buying poor quality items, or items we don't need.
Thank you for all of the knowledge, and thorough explanations on this topic!

Not so modest living.
Great ideas, but too much opinion which dragged on. I felt like she was telling me how to live my life through a lot of it. She also said a 4000 sq ft house was modest, so much privilege is assumed.

One of the best books Ive ever read/listened to...
I almost want to listen to it again. Loved the narrator. It starts a tad rough, I wasnt sure I was going to like her. But I enjoyed her full pronunciation of words and clear speech. This book goes beyond others on this topic. The author talks about things that didnt work, the hardships of living zero waste, and the emotions she feels now. I enjoyed the recipes. And above all, the lesson shopping is voting will stay with me for a very long time.

Great tips
This book does have great tips by a family who first hand made the transition, but the author who is also the narrator seems pretty neurotic. It was pretty hard to get through, as well as being able to jot down some of the helpful and useful tips offered. She spoke quickly throughout the entire book and showed no enthusiasm, everything was chopped and sized up. They even bring you useless information by their perception of how to manage life socially by the means of zero waste. There was more opinion and judgement based information then tips and strategies to become zero based. Overall after reading the book it made me personally feel as though I rather avoid the concept all together which I can tell was not at all her motive. If you are one who can sit and cipher through the sound of mania then this book is worth your time because you will find some useful information along the way. My apology to the author for being honest and blunt in nature, I really wish you could have had someone proofread your book and present the material in a way to coax one along rather than to jam down into their throat. It’s a shame the planet needs your expertise, and you need to relate to the world again in a calmer subtle understanding way. Talk about how much you love the outcome of your choice rather than be distasteful with your disgust, because who wouldn’t agree with your disgust?! Your job is to guide others to make the changes

Good Stop Gap Arts at the Home Level
The book went from the general to the specific. I was into the general. The author is honest, and admitted whenever a certain measure, though it sounded good, became impractical.
I said 'stop gap' because these measures will be useful until mass production is zero waste (and mass production in advanced societies is needed, which will relegate the knowledge in this book to the 'arts' - not necessary, but optional, yet arts that should be more widely known, since they will apply again in the Microcosm Age (a distant future).
Lacking is higher life guidance (for example, assume you achieve zero waste, then what? Dance around the Maypole?). See the Philosophy of Broader Survival for that higher life guidance, and you will have a better (broader) perspective on why you should bother to do anything at all.
