Publisher's Summary

In Zero Waste Home, Bea Johnson shares the story of how she simplified her life by reducing her waste. Today, Bea, her husband, Scott, and their two young sons produce just one quart of garbage a year, and their overall quality of life has changed for the better. What the critics say

" Zero Waste Home is an amazing story of personal transformation. It compels us to recognize that our heedlessly wasteful ways are not gateways to prosperity and convenience, but barriers to a good life and a healthy planet. Bea Johnson has produced an invaluable resource." (Edward Humes, author of Garbology)

Inspiring

Another book I'm going to have to buy in hard copy.

I think some of her changes are a little extreme, and frankly the opposite of simplifying anything, but I've been working towards reducing my negative environmental impact for a while and I know there's more I can do. It's difficult living in a condo without outdoor space, and not being rich like the author's family, but there are lots of good tips here.

The book of our times!

I was never expecting to get that much out of this book. It’s full with brilliant information! This will be a game changer for me and hopefully for our generation and the youngest ones. This book brings hope, concrete solutions, and without compromising too much on the zero-waste ideology, there is flexibility for the unavoidable less eco-friendly needs one could face. A real eye opener. I wish for everyone to read it and to try to adapt one little change at a time, until we find balance again in our lives and societies.

THIS BOOK CHANGED MY LIFE

I cannot recommend this book enough!! I stumbled across this book by the Daily Deal and could not be more thankful. The author explores her journey from the typical “American Dream” life of extreme consumerism, to her current life of producing no waste. I appreciated that the story covers all the pit falls of her journey and is unpretentious. This book launched my own journey to a life of zero waste and I will forever be thankful!

Missbarclay

The book seemed glitchy and the narrator would reappear themselves about 3-4 times throughout the book.

Otherwise the information was super useful and great!

Practical and unconventional. Not superficial.

Didn't particularly grip me at start but as it progressed and started to get down into practical suggestions, how-to's and very relatable situations, it got much more interesting to my pleasant surprise. I'm glad it wasn't overly superficial. I've bookmarked several sections and I'll certainly be referencing back to these areas in future. I'm very happy to have read this book.

Best Read By Book

What did you like best about Zero Waste Home? What did you like least?

I loved all the tips she shared! It was all very helpful and informative and encouraging to get started on my zero waste journey. However, it was difficult to stay focused because I wanted to see the many lists she had. I will buy the physical book so I can have all the recipes and ideas at my fingertips, then pass along to a friend.

One of the best books Ive ever read/listened to...

I almost want to listen to it again. Loved the narrator. It starts a tad rough, I wasnt sure I was going to like her. But I enjoyed her full pronunciation of words and clear speech. This book goes beyond others on this topic. The author talks about things that didnt work, the hardships of living zero waste, and the emotions she feels now. I enjoyed the recipes. And above all, the lesson shopping is voting will stay with me for a very long time.

Not so modest living.

Great ideas, but too much opinion which dragged on. I felt like she was telling me how to live my life through a lot of it. She also said a 4000 sq ft house was modest, so much privilege is assumed.

Fantastic content

Fabulous book. The performance was at times spotty, having odd noises at times and repeated sentences or parts of sentences, but don't let that stop you from reading this extremely practical and perspective-shifting book!

Lost Me When She Became Specific

I liked the beginning, when philosophy was in action, but I was not interested in the specifics, i.e. all the small ways one can be waste-free (which others may find intriguing). Maybe later, I'll dwell on the philosophical for now.

Great book, not great audiobook

Not only was this book packed with information, but it was also extremely inspirational! It is perfect for everyone looking to reduce their waste and/or live a healthier, simpler life, no matter how far in your zero waste or minimalist journey you already are.

However, I would not suggest this for an audiobook. Get the print (or electronic as the author suggests) book so you can easily reference the many extremely helpful recipes, formulas, and lists this book has to offer.

Narrator distracted in last chapters

All was mostly great. The narrator was excellent except she often would click her recorder which is normal but it was annoying that it wasnt edited out. The information provided in this book was great and covered way more than I would have guessed were options. There were real gems in it! I would recommend.
