  • #45 Scorers United
    Jun 26 2025

In which, Jules, Brian, Mark (welcome back) and Sue are joined by guests Helen Hyde and Andy Lynch to talk predominantly about the mentoring and support of our scoring colleagues.

It wouldn't be CSU if we didn't get distracted along the way, and although there is no mention of cake, you will hear reference to roving scorers, media scorers, quizzing scorers, cross pollination, fielding positions and we ask 'Can Andy count to three?' and just what was he doing in the toilets at the Home of Cricket?

Our usual thanks go to both our guests and don't forget to keep in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied for any comments on this and other episodes and to let us know what you would like us to talk about in future episodes.

  • #44 Women escape to the county
    May 31 2025

In which, Sue, Jules and Brian are joined by guests Lin Martin, Rod Cole and Mike Turner to talk about the return in the UK of women's cricket to Professional County Clubs rather than regional franchises.

The discussion pondered the issue of 'to travel or not to travel', celebrated scorers getting medals at the recent Women's County Cup Final and discovered the 'romance of cricket'.

As usual the conversation diverged into batters being Timed Out, Double Retirements, both batters with runners, super overs, 10 Retired Outs on one scorecard and stress for scorers of a close finish and posed the question 'Are women faster than men?'.

Thanks to all our guests in this episode and don't forget to keep in touch with Cricket Scorers Untallied via the usual channels for any comments on this and other episodes and to let us know what you would like us to talk about next.

  • #43 Double Double, Toil and Trouble. Fire burn and scoreboard bubble.
    Nov 8 2024

In which, Sue, Jules and Brian are joined by a plethora of scoreboard operators to contrast how scoring differs when operating a scoreboard.

Covered by the discussions are: Fancy scoreboards/replay screens at club level; Magic tricks to make rain go away; Kiss cam; How boards are driven; When to play replays; Pre-match nerves; Scoring priorities; Out of season preparation; Alternative uses for a scoreboard; Scoreboarders' helpline; Scorers names on scoreboards; Manual scoreboards; High drama at Lord's.

Cait asked for more cameras and when is a bug not a bug? Jane questioned what sport they were playing. Mike had to be identified by location. Cait and Steven admitted to being part of a coven!

With thanks to Mike Birtwistle (Emirates Old Trafford), Mike Turner (Cheltenham Cricket Festival), Jane Hough (Derbyshire CCC and Ockbrook & Borrowash CC), Cait Fraser-Burton (Ockbrook & Borrowash CC) and Steven Horsley (Ockbrook & Borrowash CC) for sharing their experiences of scoreboard operating.
