By the Summer of 2021, Bart and Krista Halderson were living the quintessential Midwestern life. They owned a beautiful home in Windsor, Wisconsin, and a rustic family cabin up north in White Lake, where they loved spending time together. They were also preparing to cross the finish line of parenting. Their oldest son Mitchell was a successful tech professional, engaged and in the process of buying a house. Their youngest son Chandler was days away from moving to Florida to work for SpaceX. But on July 7th, 2021, the dream shattered. Chandler went to the police station to report his parents missing. Bart and Krista had gone up north to the family cabin for the Fourth of July weekend with an unknown couple. They never came back.

On July 1, 1980, a young mother stood on the side of a remote road in northern San Diego County and watched a stranger drive away with her newborn son. The baby was only 17 days old. His name was Kevin Art Verville Jr., and more than 46 years later, he has never been found. But investigators believe there is a very real possibility that Kevin is still alive, and that he has spent his entire life unaware that the woman who raised him may not have been his biological mother.

Now, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the FBI are asking the public to take another look at Kevin’s case, including a new age-progression image showing what he may look like as an adult. Because somewhere, there may be a 46-year-old man whose entire identity began with a lie.

We're taking a look into Kevin's case this week to spread the word about his disappearance, and hopefully help find him.

In October of 2021, the body of five-year-old Elijah Lewis was found buried in a Massachusetts park. And when Crystal Sorey heard what had happened to that little boy, something inside her panicked- because she had been trying, for months, to get people to listen to her about her own missing child. Her daughter, Harmony Montgomery. Harmony was supposed to be in first grade. She was supposed to be wearing her glasses. She was supposed to be getting medical care for the condition that left her blind in one eye. She was supposed to be protected. Instead, by the time anyone officially started looking for her, Harmony had not been seen in two years. Harmony did not disappear from a life where everything seemed fine. She disappeared after years of warning signs, reports, custody battles, missed appointments, police calls, allegations of abuse, unstable homes, substance abuse, homelessness, and adults pointing fingers at every other adult in the room. Her mother failed her. Her father failed her. Her stepmother failed her. The courts failed her. Child protective services failed her. The systems built specifically to catch a little girl before she fell through the cracks watched those cracks open wider and wider. This was a child who had already spent so much of her tiny life being moved from place to place, plan to plan, home to home. A child with medical needs. A child with a little brother who loved her, missed her, and kept looking for her at playgrounds because he believed, the way children do, that if he looked hard enough, maybe she would just be there. But Harmony wasn’t there. And for years, the people responsible for knowing where she was, and making sure she was safe and cared for, simply didn’t.
