Aesop is known as a fabulist or story teller credited with a number of fables shining glaringly true light on our human foibles now collectively known as Aesop's Fables.

Aesop’s Fables refers to a collection of fables credited to Aesop (620 - 560 BC), a slave and storyteller who lived in Ancient Greece. His fables are some of the most well known in the world and remain a popular choice for the moral education of children today. Many stories included in Aesop’s Fables, such as “The Fox and the Grapes” (from which the idiom “sour grapes” was derived), “The Tortoise and the Hare”, “The North Wind and the Sun”, and “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, are well-known throughout the world.

It is both amazing and wonderful that so much of the richness of our language and our moral education still owes a huge debt to a Greek slave who was executed over 2,000 years ago. Yet "sour grapes", "crying wolf", "a dog in a manger", "actions speak louder than words", "honesty is the best policy", and literally hundreds of other metaphors, axioms, and ideas that are now woven into the very fabric of Western culture all came from Aesop's Fables.
