On Uoria, Ellora, Athan, and Mhavrych make their way back to the Mikana kingdom using a mysterious form of travel that Mhavrych won't explain but that seems to have the power to bring them far distances in mere moments. Once they've arrived, they confront Creia and Rey with what is happening, and all must decide whether they should hurry back to Penthos as fast as possible or if they should remain on Uoria longer to better prepare.

It has come time for the Denynso men to say goodbye to their mates as they prepare for their journey through Uoria. Each spends some special time with the woman that he loves, and each of the women have a token of their adoration for their man so that he can think of her when he is away from home. These special gifts perfectly exemplify who the women are, and the men tuck them away gratefully, happy that they will still have tangible reminders of their mates during their journey.

Scattered across two planets, the Denynso and their allies are driven to pull back together as the beginning of the war rages around them. As the group on Earth tries to escape the laboratory, Eden faces demons from her past and vows to break herself free from Ryan's torment once and for all. What they discover, though, could leave them at his mercy with nowhere to turn.

Suddenly surrounded by the fearsome-looking Covra, Lynx can only think of protecting Rain. Still trying to process that this beautiful woman is human, the warrior only cares that she is intended to be his mate, and fights off the spider-like creatures coming into the room, but soon falls victim to their horrifying form of warfare. Bannack and Pyra must race to find Ciyrs and heal Lynx before he is lost to the Covra. Back at the Denynso compound, the women are struggling to deal with their emotions of having their mates so far away.

It is the night before Rey, and the group of humans and warriors will return to the settlement to free the Mikana, and just days before, the others will climb aboard the shuttles headed for Earth so that they can celebrate Samira and Ty's long-awaited wedding. Everyone is coming down from the adrenaline of the last few days and trying to decide what they should do.

Still reeling from the discovery of the weapons that his father hoarded and the revelation that he had been carrying his grandfather's beloved sword into battle when he died and that sword has never been found, Maxim confronts his mother again. Ellora continues to resist her son's pleas for more information, and Athan finally convinces him that they must go on without her. Something has occurred to him that has begun to change his understanding of the night that Aegeus died, and he knows that they need to act quickly.

Zsilvia is still struggling with her feelings for George, as tortured memories of her past keep her from accepting that he is her intended mate and allowing herself to give in to his attention. Instead, she has separated herself from him and spends her time observing his efforts with the rest of the women to find a solution to the locked people in the settlement.

On both Uoria and Earth, the groups are in turmoil. Maxim, Kyven, and the others travel to the compound to consult Creia about the Order, only to find that he has left. On the settlement, Rain is determined to understand more of what happened leading up to the crash and has brought Lynx back to the crash wreckage in hopes of finding a box that may contain this information. On Earth, Eden can't get the image of the strange picture out of her mind. She knows that it means something, but she can't decide what.

Rain, Kyven, and those of the crew that stayed aboard the ship have arrived back on Uoria and must start gathering the army and the weapons that Maxim and the others need on Penthos, but not everyone is happy at their return, or at their intention to leave again to continue the war. On Earth Jonah continues to uncover more in the files and begins to wonder if there is more to the aged hospital than they thought, leading him to head back into the laboratory building without the benefit of the rest of the group.

When Aubrey comes home with a story from work about a colleague who once explored a factory owned by the Orion Corporation and discovered strange rooms and other odd happenings, Jonah knows that he has to keep digging. A return to the medical ward reveals something that turns everything that he thought he knew upside down, and he and Aubrey must decide what is the most important and what they should do next.

As Pyra tries to convince Eden that she and the new baby should remain on Uoria rather than traveling to Earth and Gyyx tries to convince Creia that he should join his people as they travel for the wedding, Ero and Creia struggle with internal forces that make both question who they are and how they will move forward.

Eden is sent to Uoria and given the task to test the blood of the Denynso. Only that's against the rules. She doesn't want to be that close to them anyway. From everything she'd heard about the species they are more temperamental than her, but her boss' ultimatum gives her no choice. She goes and gets what he wants or she loses her job, her livelihood. When Eden arrives she is confronted by Pyra, a man who believes he is god's gift to women, but she thinks he's a jerk and doesn't have time for his games. The more she dislikes him, the more her body yearns for him.

Sweetest, nurturing Ty has been looking forward to finding his mate his entire life, but now that he is facing that exact situation, he doesn't know what to do. The student that came to Uoria with Zuri when the professor returned to be with Ero is stunningly beautiful, but is also so young. He doesn't want to take advantage of her, but the longer she is on the planet, the more he realizes that she is the one for him.

As those that returned to Earth continue to prepare for Ty and Samira's wedding, Eden encounters a group of women from the university who are startled to see her, but will not tell her why. Suspicious that they know what is happening, she goes to the laboratory to confront Ryan and discovers that the motivations behind him sending her to Uoria are far more complex than she could have imagined.

As the group on Earth plans their trip to the Orion Corporation factory, Aubrey is concerned that Ilya is making the wrong decision in coming along with them. Ilya, however, insists that this is something that she needs to do. They know that there is something in that factory that holds meaning to her beyond what she will tell them, and together, they must make the journey to discover the answers that they all seek.
