Nina Borg, a Red Cross nurse, wife, and mother of two, is trying to live a quiet life. But now she discovers a far more terrifying inheritance: her father is a Blackmaster and has the Serpent Gift for lie and illusion. And when he comes to claim his daughter, Dina and her family are catapulted into reckless flight and danger.

Dina has the Shamer's Gift—one look into her eyes, and none can mask their guilt or hide their shame. Now even her brother, Davin, no longer dares to meet her glance. His conscience is troubled by his mother and sister's power, and he wants to avenge the crimes committed against his family with a battle by the sword. But these are treacherous times and Dina's life is in terrible danger. Kidnapped by the corrupt Valdracu, she is forced to use her gift as a weapon. And Davin becomes her only hope of escape.

Det er ikke med vilje, at Dina er havnet i Dunarks Dragegård. Hun har ikke spor lyst til at spille helt. Faktisk er det hendes højeste ønske at være en ganske almindelig pige og måske få nogle ganske almindelige venner. Men det går ikke, når man er Skammerens datter og har øjne, ingen almindelige mennesker tør se ind i.

Skammerkrigen er den spændende afslutning på historien om Dina, Skammerens datter. Nico havde kaldt Carmian stærk, men jeg troede bare hun var kold. Kold, hårdhjertet og falsk. Og hende havde Nico valgt at stole på? Jeg har lagt mit liv i dine hænder, havde han sagt. Men hvis han absolut skulle lægge sit liv i nogens hænder, hvorfor kunne det så ikke være mine? Hvis Drakan skal standses, skal det være nu. Men Dina synes Nicos plan er mere farlig end klog - og kampen mod dragehæren er ikke en krig der kan vindes med sværdet alene.

En mystisk mand dukker op på markedet, han står der bare lige pludselig og spærrer vejen for Dina og vil ikke flytte sig. Han ser på hende med et besynderligt udtryk i ansigtet - som om han har fundet noget. Dina mærker et stik af uro - og det har hun god grund til, viser det sig senere. For det er Sezuan, Sortemester - og Dinas far. Dinas mor er bange for ham, så bange at hun og hele familien flygter over hals og hoved, men kan man overhovedet skjule sig for en Sortemester?

Familien må flygte fra deres hjem, men kan ikke flygte fra den farlige Drakan og hans mænd, som får mere og mere magt. Dinas bror Davin bliver nu også involveret, og Dina og Davin kommer ud for voldsomme begivenheder.

Natasha Doroshenko, a Ukrainian woman who has been arrested for murdering her Danish fiancé, escapes police custody on her way to an interrogation in Copenhagen's police headquarters. It isn't the first time Natasha has lost a partner to violent ends: her first husband was also murdered three years earlier, in Kiev, and in the same manner, his hands broken. At the same time, someone tries to abduct Natasha's eight-year-old daughter from the Red Cross center that has been caring for her while her mother, an illegal immigrant, was in jail.

Davin's never been good at telling what's brave and what's merely stupid, but when he tries to stop Nico from following his destiny, he knows he's crossed the line. And now his sister, Dina, is caught up in Nico's quest. Her Shamer's Gift means she can bring humiliation to the most hardened villain, simply by looking him in the eye. But faced by Nico's deadliest enemy, Dina knows this won't be enough.
