Eight-year-old Barney is willing to accept that the ghost of his Great-Uncle Cole might wish to be friends with him, but his family are sceptical. Margaret Mahy is one of the very best childrens writers. Her inventive stories and humour are both incredible and delightful. In 'The Downhill Crocodile Whizz' a crocodile is sent a pair of skates by his Grandma and ignoring her warning sets off to have fun. In 'Elephant Milk Hippopotamus Cheese' a giant helps Weedy finally grow into her enormous feet. Absolute joy.
