It follows the little boy from that first meeting with the devil, all the way through his life...until the surprise end. The author takes on his fellow Southerners who say they are all about "heritage, not hate". He believes the Southern heritage was hate and to a great extent...still is.

This story came to me in the form of a letter and email, and I am publishing it with the author's permission, I hope, word for word, with nothing changed or left out except the author's name and the city where he lives....

Bad news travels fast, even more so today. The families heard about the crash almost immediately...even though it happened almost 1,000 miles away. The surviving families were devastated. The public and this writer wondered just one question: "Why?"

"I lost a big battle this morning. The battle was whether to stay in bed and take it easy all day or tell you about Bill Klase and Jack Swift. It is the Summer of 1972 and I am with two of the most wonderful guys I have ever met. It is Florida, St. Petersburg, a beautiful, sunny day. I am at Bill Klase's house and Jack Swift is there. We are standing next to Jack's shiny new sports car, and Bill is smiling, and I am smiling, and Jack Swift is smiling. All is well and wonderful in the world for that one moment...."

About this story: People do strange things. I am one of them. Don't call the police on me. I'll fix it.
