Norman Grubb, the son of an Irish clergyman, was born in England in 1895. He served as a lieutenant of the Bloucester Regiment, receiving the Military Cross for his service during World War I. Following the war, he attended Trinity College, Cambridge, and married Pauline Studd, the youngest daughter of the famous missionary C. T. Studd. The Grubbs served as missionaries in the Belgian Congo where Norman translated the New Testament into Bangala.
