Originally part of American author and editor James Baldwin’s collection called Fifty Famous Stories Retold, this short fable tells the story of Genghis Khan and his favorite hunting hawk. It covers themes such as anger, trust, and regret, and its moral ending is both touching and powerful.

This sermon by George Everard deals with petitionary prayer. The six words are, "Lord Jesus, glorify Yourself in me!" He values this prayer, because it is the echo of the Christian's heart to the words of Christ on the night before His death.

Dale’s sermon about Christ’s kingship includes descriptions of divine anger, divine righteousness, divine mercy, and divine grace. He claims that various departments of human life constitute different kingdoms in which the authority of Christ must be acknowledged and his laws obeyed. The final part expounds on Christ as King of the spiritual life of man.

George Everard (1828-1901) describes the Christian in three images or attitudes: the little child, the laborer, and the soldier clad in armor, whose motto is, "I fight." He emphasizes the need to daily put on the whole armor of God. That will make the believer valiant in winning souls and patient in waiting. 

Dale discusses the perpetual conflict between Christianity and worldliness. He warns against "the bitter melancholy, this profound discontent with all things in Heaven above and on the earth beneath". Rejecting the concept of "the sanctity of misery" he criticizes the Book of Ecclesiastes and the image of the traditional "Romish Saint", and concludes by saying that for the miseries which we cannot escape, the Divine love affords infinite consolation.
