Everyone struggles with stress from time to time. Stress is a natural thing that occurs within all of us. Stress and anxiety can occur momentarily or (acutely), and it can also occur frequently (chronic). I've had a lot of experiences dealing with stress and anxiety in my life, let me tell you. There has been so many times in my life where I have become so crippled, overwhelmed with stress that I just couldn’t move forward, and it was a big driver toward unhealthy habits and addictions for me.

When you see perfectionism in others and see the results of perfectionism, you would probably have a hard time believing that perfectionism could be holding so many people back. Truth is, perfectionism is holding many people back in a lot of ways. When you see a perfectly clean home, a perfect workplace report, and a perfect garden you can't help but envy the perfectionist. Perfectionism takes time; it takes a lot of time to make things perfect, and not only does it cost you a great deal of time, but it is also costing you mental well-being and happiness.

Most people start smoking at a younger stage of life where, maybe, they're under a lot of stress. There's a lot of uncertainty, a lot of self-doubt. They don't feel self-confident in themselves. Then, over the years, they kind of grow up a bit. They mature a bit, and they get to the point where they're a little bit more motivated to care for themselves and look after themselves. They get to that point where they feel a strong desire to want to stop smoking. They use some patches, change some routines, they break the habit. They stay on the wagon so long as life doesn't get in the way.

Depression is something that I know well myself, both from personal experience and from the experiences of many people close to me. I remember receiving the diagnosis and the explanation that I had a chemical imbalance in my brain. I saw numerous doctors, but I only seem to remember them asking me about the symptoms. As I recall, the outcome was only ever one of four things. The doctor would tell me that I would have to start medication; the next doctor would ask me to stop medication, another would ask me to try some new medication, and yet another doctor would adjust my medication.

Go out and ask a bunch of your friends whether or not they have a preference for Coke and Pepsi. Some people say they taste the same, but most people will say they can taste the difference. Ask your friends if they think the subtle meanings portrayed in each brands advertising has affected the way they feel about the drink. Inevitably, they will say no. Inevitably, they will say that the only thing that affects the way they feel about the product is the way it tastes.

I once had a therapy client who told me she bought an exercise bike about six months prior to coming in for some one on one coaching. As is the fate of most exercise bikes, treadmills, and gym equipment, it just sat there getting dusty. So she was thinking about getting rid of it. The reason was that she lacked the energy or motivation to use it and wanted to know how to get back into that mindset to lose weight.

Beings, like other mammals, were never meant to be solitary creatures. We have an innate need to bond and feel connected with others in order to lead a fulfilled life, and so quite often the quality of your life is most powerfully determined by the quality of your relationships. What is it about you and your current way of thinking that is attracting or being attracted to the wrong kind of person? Part of the problem can be resolved by learning how to better communicate and express yourself, so that way you're less likely to attract the wrong kind of person.
