Mark Deakins gives a compellingly subdued reading of this spellbinding series. Winner of multiple Earphones Awards and recognized as an AudioFile Best Voice, the accomplished narrator and actor projects a real sense of uncertainty as he tells the story of Thomas, a boy who yearns to solve the mystery of the maze and find his way back to a home he can't remember. While keeping up the tension and action, Deakins helps the listener navigate the maze of new terms: a slang invented by author James Dashner exclusively for the Gladers and their world.

James Dasher knew he wanted to be a writer in elementary school, as he shared in an interview, from the day he “fell in love with Judy Blume books.” He credits his inspiration for The Maze Runner to two books he also read and loved in his youth: Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. For the Maze Runner series, Dashner created a dystopian world with not only its own rules but also its own vocabulary. He is the author of three additional series for young fans of sci-fi thrillers: the Mortality Doctrine, the 13th Reality, and the Infinity Ring.

The Maze Runner was selected as a Kirkus Reviews Best Teen Book of the Year and an ALA-YASLA Best Fiction for Young Adults. Every novel in the series hit the New York Times and the USA Today best seller lists. The series has been adapted into a trio of motion pictures—The Maze Runner (2014), Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015), and Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)—all directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O'Brien, known for his breakout heartthrob role in the MTV series, Teen Wolf.
