Chev’s been dreaming of his mate since the moment he learned he had one. Most shifters find their mates in early adulthood, but Chev wasn’t one of the lucky ones. He’s thrown himself into work while he searches, becoming alpha of the bear shifters and the leader of the Seekers’ organization, but he hasn’t given up hope.
Vanessa doesn’t want a mate. After spending years at the mercy of violent ogres, she’s determined to live the remainder of her life free of men.
When she accepts a job offer to work at the Seekers’ organization, she’s ecstatic to have something that gives her life purpose. Everything is panning out exactly as she dreamed, but it all crumbles when Chev learns who she is.
Vanessa must make a decision—run away and deny her bond to Chev or face her fears and accept fate’s calling.

On the negative, the story fell short of expectations. I really liked Chev throught the series so was excited for him to get his HEA. It just took a wierd turn. I realize that due to the nature of the species and culture he belongs to that they are intense, but he just came off as desperate and creepy at times. Which threw me because he seemed committed and secure in the other novels. Not sure how things kinda turned. Glad I read it, but it won't be a relisten.

Overall I am glad Chev found his mate. This in itself I find to be the main appeal of the book, and not particularly a spoiler for the title and those who read the other books.
My issue that dropped this from a reasonable 4 star down to a 2 is this; I don’t think Wright was equipped well enough to get chevs mate to process their sexual trauma sufficiently before continuing with the intimacy. I understand this book is largely about Chev and his sacrifice and struggles within the shifter society, but his mate coming from the background they did needed more care.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW
This book hits the idea that “Mr Right can save you from your trauma” and that, especially as a survivor of SA, no doesn’t truly mean no.
Chev isn’t brought forward as a bad guy in this book by any means, and I don’t mean for him to, but some of his actions were swept under the rug and he didn’t face real consequences of them like he should have. Especially for a work that’s revolved around the dynamic of SA, the wrongdoings it does, and the desire to heal society from it.
Chev’s mate also doesn’t get much internal time where we see them process their grief and trauma. Within about the span of a year we go from “Never in a million years” to an active intimate relationship, and outside of a few begrudging “I don’t want to” internal monologues we don’t see any real processing. Just “nature taking over”.
It felt like the trauma was just used as a tragic backstory rather than a core component of the world Wright was building here. SA survivors have a very unique kind of trauma that I think needed much more care about if you were going to make them a love interest in a world about treating women right.
