Fifty years ago, I left school as one of the best readers and writers in my class. Naturally, I decided to put that talent to absolutely no use whatsoever for the next half-century.

Now, five decades later, I've finally returned to writing. Some people buy a sports car when they have a midlife crisis. I decided to invent imaginary people, ruin their lives and occasionally kill them off. Much cheaper than a Ferrari, although probably more concerning.

I write stories filled with mystery, murder, horror, dark humour and the occasional character who's clearly got more problems than I have.

They say it's never too late to follow your dreams. At my age, I'm just hoping I can finish a few books before I forget what the dreams were.

So welcome to my world. I'm Alan Breen, a Scottish author who's taken fifty years to get started.

Better late than never. Unless you're one of my characters. Then you're probably already dead.
