I was an immigrant to Canada but have since become a Canadian. My favourite sport is soccer followed by cycling, and for the last thirty- plus years, jogging. I still ask myself, after a difficult long-distance run: Why? I like challenging thoughts and the free will issue is one of those. There are many books that discuss the free will question. In my book I am not repeating what others already have said. I am offering a third option; most people have not considered. It goes well beyond free will and relates to all human behaviour. Why do we do what we do and not do? For more than twenty-five years my wife and I have been working with underprivileged children and youth. Currently we run our own organization and are serving their needs. It may not come as a surprise that behaviour is often on our mind. More than thirty years ago, I was asked a question that I have pondered for many years. Ultimately it resulted in the creation of this book. Its content is in many ways applicable to all aspects of our life as we always manifest behaviour. It is my belief that behaviour is the result of process rather than choice.
