Alexander Hertel-Fernandez is an Associate Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. He studies the intersection of interest groups, especially business and labor, and politics in the United States. His research has been published, or is forthcoming, in the Journal of Politics, Journal of Health Politics, Policy, and Law, Perspectives on Politics, Studies in American Political Development, and the Social Service Review. His work has also appeared in media outlets such as the American Prospect, Democracy Journal, the Economist, MSNBC, the New York Times, the New Yorker, NPR, Salon, Talking Points Memo, the Washington Post, and Vox. His research has been supported by grants and fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, and the Dirksen Congressional Center. He received his PhD in Government and Social Policy from Harvard University and his BA in Political Science from Northwestern University.
