She is presently a senior staff writer for ESPN and a contributing editor for the southern lifestyle magazine Garden & Gun, as well as a columnist for Southern Living. Glock is also co-author of the Young Adult book series entitled Changers (Akashic Books), and has written for television. Her work has also appeared in Best American Sportswriting (2000 & 2013) and Best Food Writing (2013), and recent awards include the FOLIO Award for Best Sports Article (2011), the MIN Award for Best Reporting (2012), and a GLAAD Award for Outstanding Magazine Article (2011). In 2004 Glock was the recipient of the Whiting Award for her book, "Beauty Before Comfort" (Knopf) a memoir of her grandmother’s life in West Virginia. A New York Times notable book, "Beauty Before Comfort" is an intimate portrait of southern, small-town life, which the Los Angeles Times called ”a vivid evocation of the imperiled natural beauty of this region of mines and potteries, the hardships of the Depression and the charms of small-town life as well as its shibboleths, petty snobberies and sheer boredom. Glock writes with enormous zest, and her book is a delight to read: funny, forceful, down-to-earth. Her humor comes straight out of the classic American vein, a blend of tall-tale hyperbole and ironic understatement.” Allison Glock was born and raised in West Virginia, until her family moved to North Florida, where she attended high school. Glock holds a B.A. from Indiana University, and an M.A. in Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School (Syracuse University). She lives with her husband and children in the South.
