Ana Clavel (Mexico City, 1961) is a novelist, short story writer and essayist who has made her writing into a transgressive space where she experiments with literary form. She holds a Masters degree in Latin American literature from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and has participated in numerous writing workshops and conferences throughout the world. Her novel Las ninfas a veces sonríen (At times the nymphs smile) received the Elena Poniatowska Iberoamerican Prize and her novella Las violetas son flores del deseo (Violets are Flowers of Desire) the Juan Rulfo Prize from Radio France International. Her work has been translated into French, Arabic and English (Desire and Its Shadow and Shipwrecked Body, both by Aliform Publishing). Clavel has developed numerous transliterary projects that combine printed text, video, photography, installation art and performance, which can be seen in the multimedia section of her website, www.anaclavel.com.
