Born and raised in Minneapolis, Andy Kantar is the author of a trilogy of Great Lakes shipwreck books written primarily for young adults. His first book, 29 MISSING, was a Michigan Notable Book for Young Adults. BLACK NOVEMBER was a finalist for the Foreword Book of the Year (YA nonfiction) and the major source for an Emmy-winning documentary. DEADLY VOYAGE was featured by the Michigan Humanities Council’s “One Book, One County Reads.” GAME FACE, a middle-grade basketball novel, received a Bronze Medal at the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and is professor emeritus at Ferris State University where he was an English professor for over 30 years, including 8 years as director of their Writing Center. For two years, he was also a Fulbright Scholar to Norway at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He currently lives in Minneapolis with his wife, Fran. Fun fact: For three years Andy was Goldy Gopher, the University of Minnesota mascot.
