Awil is a father and community employment specialist who works in local government helping businesses create meaningful, sustainable jobs for young people. Becoming a dad changed his life, and having strong local and family support made those early years more joyful and less overwhelming, a privilege he knows many parents and carers do not have. Across his career he has listened to community leaders, managers, local business owners and young people who have grown up with every kind of start in life, from surrounded by support to feeling completely on their own. Those conversations showed him that our early years and our ability to connect with others can shape the opportunities in front of us. As an active father Awil co-founded Village Library, with the vision to build global community where children, parents, carers and educators belong, learn and care for one another.
