Axel Melzener got his start in the media world as a teenage composer of computer game soundtracks. He went on to study film at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Film Academy and has been working as a screenwriter for television and cinema for 20 years. He has written episodes for series such as "Highway Police" and "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction", co-created the ZDFneo series "Darktown" and wrote the script for the animated film "Birds of a Feather", for which Kate Winslet and Willem Dafoe provided the English voices. He also writes non-fiction books on storytelling and novels, and is a guest lecturer at film schools in Germany and abroad. He is a history buff and has been fascinated by the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages since childhood. He lives in Cologne, Germany.
