Barnard Sims whose pen name is Barnard the Barber is the Award-Winning Author of: The Southern Awakening, A Black Man’s Guide to Liberating the Rural South. A former cosmetology instructor at Athens Technical College as he also served as the Vice President of his local NAACP. Barnard is a United States Chess Federation District Chess Coach, who’s taught chess at the Boys and Girls Club. Barnard is also the founder of Reach One Chess, Inc, which is a 501(c3) organization centered around using Chess as a tool to improve test scores for at risk students. Barnard’s nonprofit’s philosophy is based on the African Proverb: “Each One, Teach One”. Barnard is also an actor who was recently in the movie “Till” produced by Whoopi Goldberg. In addition, Barnard serves as host and creative genius of the YouTube podcast “The Way It Is” to give voice to the voiceless.
