Barry Somes comes from a family where stories were never just told; they were lived. They were passed down like treasures. He is a direct descendant of Abigail Somes, who survived the fear and uncertainty of the Salem Witch Trials, and that legacy of resilience has shaped his own way of seeing the world. His love for storytelling was sparked early by his grandfather, a well-known Maine storyteller whose after-dinner tales could turn even an ordinary night into something memorable.

As an active member of the Maine Authors and Publishers Alliance, Barry is closely connected to the local writing community and regularly attends the Maine Crime Writers Conference, where he continues to learn, share, and grow alongside fellow writers. His work in mystery and suspense has earned international recognition, including a 2025 award for his contribution to the genre.

Barry’s life outside writing has been equally whole and service-driven. He has volunteered as a firefighter, served as President of the Falmouth, Maine, Fire Department, worked as an EMT, chaired the Greater Portland Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee, founded the Lids for Kids charity to support children with warm winter clothing, and served on the Board of Directors for the Maine Chapter of the Sierra Club. He also spent more than thirty years as a Certified Travel Consultant, running his own agency and helping countless people experience the world.

A graduate of the University of Maine with advanced studies in Holistic Theology, Barry brings depth, curiosity, compassion, and a strong sense of place into everything he writes. His storytelling reflects both his fascination with human nature and his belief that every person, and every choice, shapes a story worth telling.
