Biff Simpson, born William D. Simpson, spent much of his childhood moving across the United States. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he lived there for only six months before his family relocated after his father stepped outside their apartment and found himself standing in waist-deep floodwater. Simpson later lived in New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin, attending a different school nearly every year from fourth through tenth grade.
He studied physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and developed an interest in nuclear engineering. However, during his senior year, a national moratorium on the construction of new nuclear power plants led him to pursue a different professional path.
Simpson went on to work for Radio Shack, establish and later sell his own company, and spend nineteen years working within the medical industry for hospitals and clinics. He subsequently became an Information Technology Director and later served as Chief Information Officer for a turbomachinery company.
Outside his professional career, Simpson has remained deeply involved in community, educational, and creative activities. He served as both a Scout troop leader and district chairman, directed two improvisational comedy troupes, and sponsored seventeen international students through Dartmouth College. For fifteen years, he also directed an annual youth-group cabaret.
He is married and has four children. Two hold doctoral degrees, one has earned a bachelor’s degree, and one is a registered nurse specializing in oncology.
Simpson originally wrote Tantalus in 2001 but set the manuscript aside until recently. He is currently developing a second novel and also plans to release collections of comedy scripts, children’s stories, and short fiction.
