Born July 2nd a native of Michigan, Black Mermaid began writing as child to therapeutically express her deepest thoughts. First published at the age of eight in Ebony Jr! magazine, she went on to compose various poems and articles by request and for her own library. Black Mermaid enjoys sharing her colorful experiences with others as she feels it is one of her many purposes to fulfill in life; that is, to help others to overcome. She bravely approaches topics and issues of both women and men that most feel uncomfortable discussing in a most tasteful and often slightly humorous manner. She has performed her poetry publicly at poetry venues in Baltimore and Columbia, Maryland; Michigan, grand openings, correctional facilities and has been a guest speaker at graduations and sorority youth group outreach seminars.
