Mr. Johnston is a 3 tour veteran of the Vietnam War; serving on the rivers in the I-Corps area of what was then South Vietnam. Evan though a published author in other fields, he chose to write this book because there was no written history of the part his boat group played in the conflict. At present he has 2 other novels, 1 non-fiction and 1 fiction, in progress. 'Heart of War' is an expanded chapter from the first book, centered around the 'Liberty Bridge' in a very deadly part of Vietnam. The other. 'Old Fools Gold', is based on and around experiences gleaned since his return to Vietnam. Returning to make his home in the country, in 2007. He now lives, operates a small cafe and tourist hostel with his wife, in the city of Tuy Hoa on the south central coast of Vietnam. Together they run a local charity, Rice Soup from Love, feeding and clothing the local poor and disadvantaged people in the Tuy Hoa area.
