I'm not sure I ever set out to write a book. Actually, I know that wasn’t my first intent. I'm not a theologian. I don't have a seminary degree or a string of letters after my name. What I am is a lifelong follower of Jesus who spent years feeling like I was missing something…like the answers I was getting were good, but incomplete.

I grew up a Missionary Baptist…in Kentucky. That should tell you almost everything you need to know about me. I served as a Sunday School teacher, an ordained deacon, and a worship leader, and basically considered myself a person who would mop the floors and lock the doors. But even with all of my understanding of church doctrine, I felt a nagging sense that there was more to understand about why the world is broken, more to grasp about what Jesus actually accomplished, and more to know about what it means to be part of His kingdom.

This book started as personal study, not a writing project. I was just trying to answer my own questions and organize my thoughts. But the more I dug, the more I realized the answers couldn't fit in a bullet point list. They needed room to breathe. So I gave them room.

How the World Came Undone: The Genesis Rifts is for anyone who's ever sat in church and thought, "I believe this, but I feel like I'm only getting part of the story. I feel like I’m missing something. If the church is doing so good, why is it shrinking and becoming less relevant in the world? Where is the transformative change in people and society? Why is evil running rampant everywhere I look? God, what’s going on?" I wrote it as an ordinary person for ordinary people. No jargon, no lecture. Just one believer sharing what he found.

I live in Kentucky with my wife, who has been super supportive of my obsession with getting this project finished. We have two kids in college that we’re very proud of. By day I work in technology. By night, apparently, I write Jesus books.
